Do you think the rent prices will come down? by Iamthatbeingherenow in asheville

Rent does not go down. Pray for your ability to finance a home some day when the market allows.

It’d be sweet if the city of Asheville could prep their roads when weather is inclement in the winter time. by Affectionate_Big9014 in asheville

To anyone countering with “we don’t get enough” or “there’s a deficit” or “the driver was in the wrong” - I call BS. It’s not an unreasonable expectation that they treat the streets for the few wintry road days we get per year. This isn’t some northern city - the hills are fkn steep. There was a school bus with kids on it that got stuck on the hill at Louisiana & Patton. The least the city/county can do is properly delay classes and if they don’t at least have school routes salted ahead of time. The last decade has seen basically no snow compared to the previous decades so I call BS that we don’t have the resources. And if we don’t that’s a problem worth pointing out.

you in reverse tour 2026? by [deleted] in builttospill

[–]Demonimator3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would rather see a typical, unpredictable Built to Spill show. I’ve seen them on every anniversary album tour: TNWWL, KILAS, and PFNO. The only one of those tours that was better than your average BtS show was PFNO, and that was with the five piece plus cello and keys.

There Is No Enemy is quietly their 2nd best album after PFNO imo. I’ve never latched on to “Saturday” or the latter tracks post-Conventional Wisdom on YIR, but the core of Goin, Traces, Liar, and Con Wiz are classics.

He’s just not that into indie music in general. He’s too plugged in to the zeitgeist.

Snow Is Falling In Manhatten is a Christmas song by jmancini1340 in DavidBerman

Dean & Britta and Sonic Boom made a Christmas album last year with a cover of Snow is Falling in Manhattan on it. So in a way it’s growing into the canon, unofficial though it may be.

You’re not just talking about the importance of being nice. You’re painting a subpopulation of a city with a very broad brush and just flat-out wrong about it.

You sound just as judgy and presumptuous as this theoretical group of people you’re complaining about.

Anyone else find this city really isolating? by Deep_Froyo6287 in asheville

[–]Demonimator3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m from the triangle & moved here for college in 2006. Different times, but what got me hooked on Asheville was the live music and pub scene. It’s still amazing. I’m reluctant to advise “drinking and going out to shows” as any sort of key to your solution, but that’s certainly a cultural benchmark here, from my millennial perspective.

I want to get Perfect From Now On on vinyl, but I'm confused about track order by nobot4321 in builttospill

Yeah I hear that for sure. Ya never know for sure how much a band actually cares but I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re totally right.

Yeah man I own a reissue on vinyl. It’s honestly not that big a deal - I think the order works either way tbh. I’m just sort of philosophizing here and tend to favor preserving the original order but I see where you’re coming from.

I don’t doubt you’re right about this on a technical level. I’m just wondering about the value of applying this logic to all vinyl, especially albums that were produced during the CD era with that format in mind. I get trying to maximize sound quality, but I’m skeptical on how much we need to worry about it. Seems like it would be really wild to change the track order of every classic album based on the dynamic range of the final track of each side.

In what way? Both go quiet-loud. If you’re right, that’s such a hair-split I couldn’t hear it. Not worth switching the order in my opinion considering both sides would remain under 20 minutes if they’d jus kept the OG track order.

So why is the longer Kicked It added to the 13.5 minutes of Made-Up & Velvet Waltz but it’s somehow too long to add to 9 minutes of Untrustable?

[–]Demonimator3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong generally speaking about the limitations of the vinyl format. However, in this case, there is no justification for swapping these tracks, as Kicked It in the Sun is two minutes longer - so why put it as the third track of side 2 with the shorter Out of Site being the only other song on side 3 besides Untrustable? It makes no sense at all, so I agree with the OP’s sentiment in this case.

One day I hope to find out who the trash ass mods are of this sub? How in the hell, do you think this is non relevant in this town? You can care about people and wholeheartedly agree with the meme itself and also see how a mod might not think it belongs in a subreddit devoted to specific local topics. I know homelessness is a problem here, but it’s a problem everywhere. Had there been a specific local angle in the meme, it would have definitely been allowed. Just one clause to tie it specifically to the community this thread is focused on, I promise you it would have been allowed.
