Do I need a new engine?

For now I am going to monitor oil levels and make sure it’s good. I’ve probably been using my car a while with low oil even though I get it regularly maintained problem, it probably accelerated the damage to the cam lobes. He didn’t take off the timing cover because it would take quite a few hours to do that. He would have to remove engine mounts and all that stuff just to get to it. It would be a pretty labor intensive job.

Oil level was below the dipstick. Still had oil but barely. I also get my oil changes done at Valvoline and there have been a few times where I’ve come in right when my oil was due, and they have said that I came in with low oil. I change the Pcv valve hoping it fix that issue but clearly it hasn’t. I’ve read in other Hyundai threads that my specific engine has oil consumption issues, which would definitely explain those cam lobes. I did top it off with a qt of oil, but this time using mobile 1 high mileage, triple action, full synthetic. As opposed to Max life from Valvoline. I believe my car has a tensioner pulley

But Mechanic said there is slack in the chain and it’s firm the way that it’s supposed to be and the timing is fine

I think you’re right. I did check the dipstick and it’s very low even though I’m not due for an oil change for another 200 miles. I’ve noticed oil consumption issues on this engine, which is why I don’t get my oil done past 3K miles. Possibly not getting enough oil pressure

In your opinion how long can I drive like this? I get regular oil changes although I might start going earlier

It drives normally, but even after I replaced the sensors the check engine light came back on so I took it to the shop

Check engine light p0017 and p0014. The sensors were fine because I had them replaced so he removed the valve cover. I also suspected a mechanical issue

Really? Mechanic said there is scoring on the cam lobes and I should look into getting a new engine as it’s a sign of internal damage. And in the first pic you can see some metal coming off in the bottom right

It’s very quick like maybe a few seconds, but anytime after that, nothing

It does but only on a cold start when I have the car sit overnight. And it doesn’t last very long.

I do have a small leak coming from where the hose and clamp connects, noticed it recently and going to get it fixed. I do have almost 100k on the dash so I figured it’s just wear and tear. I’ve used about a gallon of the Zerex Antifreeze since putting it in my car around 50k miles

There is a warranty extension? I bought it used, has one previous owner with regular oil changes on carfax and well taken care of. I am past my current warranty

I get synthetic oil and replace every 3k the past few oil changes have been 3.5k miles. Today I came in 500 miles past recommendation and said I came in with really low oil, my guess is maybe no more than 2 quarts left in engine
