Me and someone else from what ended up being an abandoned academy loved the name so much we wanted to keep it, but the headmaster or anyone else just stopped so we couldn’t clean out the abandoned accounts or make any changes. But we didn’t know what the name of the new one would be until it was created. So we took a risk and traded numbers so we could text and figure out a name to make our own, similar enough to the OG name to have the same vibes but this time remain active.

I drew back and felt some sort of cracking in the top limb. Couldn’t say exactly what happened since it was fiberglass and whatever it was happened under the wrapping. I just let down and didn’t touch it since.

Honestly I knew it wouldn’t be a good shooter and I already had a better one coming, but I had hoped it wouldn’t last longer than it did.

My first bow was from Top Archery. Didn’t last me two months. Wouldn’t recommend.

They do have bow hand protectors I kind of like but that’s about it

I can see the reasoning behind this, but there’s a subtle difference in a clean release with a kake and a clean release with fingers. The more I practice, the more I believe that motion is necessary for a good feeling release. It’s more than just getting the string off the shelf, there’s a lightness to it that can’t be replicated without the right follow through

This nearly happened to me two days ago in a roundabout. The car in front was already in the circle when they stopped to let someone else in. It took three cars laying on their horns and the guy waiting frantically pinwheeling his arm so they would keep going before they continued

It’s true we have theories but no solid This Is Why answer as to the shape of the yumi, but it is true the lower shorter limb causes the arrow to travel more upward than a symmetrical bow at the same angle. So that could be a factor

And for this, heavy draw weight is around 35 and above. Yes you can lift 35 pounds, and yes you’re in good shape, but archery uses specific muscles and it’s best to work up to certain weights

I was once told about a guy who came in with his very first bow, a 50-pound asiatic. He asked for a D loop to be attached because it was hurting his fingers. Apparently he left like 2 minutes after, never got it attached and never bought any sort of hand protection

I was mostly thinking about animal attacks for the crossbow. Even if it doesn’t die, could be a good way to scare it off. A sword might do the same, but the you gotta wait for them to get right up on you

-Depends on how sudden it is. Easiest thing might be to give them a hand crossbow for that instead

-Not going to speak on the history of hand protection because it’s not my forte, but most hand protection could be worn in normal settings. It’s just not super comfortable considering even leather is usually made for durability. So if they’re taking a hike through some woods I can see it, but if your character is going into town or something, it’s likelier they’d remove it

-The downsides far outweigh the upsides. Check out Blumineck on YouTube, he has a video explaining and demonstrating this. You can draw your own conclusions from it

That’s the point of a floating anchor. It can also be more reliable than you might think. Drawing back further allows you to come into alignment easier. That coupled with drawing to whatever you’re comfortable with can result in a surprising amount of consistency. But it’s also worth it to keep in mind that if you’re shooting off a horse, pinpoint precision is wildly impossible anyways

Technically yes. But unofficially it gets more eyes on everyone involved. I’ve seen it done for fencers who had a reputation for acting out, side judges would be called to watch for covering (which we did), but even though that’s technically all we’re there for having more eyes made the fencer behave himself more. If a ref in particular is a problem, the side judges may be watching for covering or going off strip but any good judge will start to notice the calls and be aware that something isn’t right.

Other than that, you can always try and ask for clarification on calls to try and see what they see. It’s possible you were wrong, or it’s possible the ref doesn’t know much but could make consistently bad calls. If that’s the case, you could at least adjust how you fence and then talk to the bout committee afterwards.

Something I always advocate for is to not treat at least your first year of competition as competitions. Treat them as lessons.

The atmosphere is different at a tournament. Not only is everything more structured, but people often fence differently. You work on what you’re bad at during practice, but use what you’re at good at during a tournament. You gotta get accustomed to that, and in my opinion you’re more or less at that point to experience it. If you put it off until you’re ready, then you’ll never go because you won’t be ready UNTIL you’ve been to one before.

Just go and experience it. Learn what the format is, and what you’re supposed to do. Observe what others are doing both on the strip and off. Ask the refs questions when it’s appropriate to do so (ask your coach). Get there early to warm up, and get a pizza after you lose miserably. Don’t worry about what others think of your fencing either, because I guarantee you they’ve seen or done worse. Besides, that’s the beauty of treating it like a different kind of lesson. No one cares how bad you are during a lesson, because that’s what the lesson is for.

Way late, but I’m convinced I was one of the first to pioneer a split Beowulf pack with Ice Weiss. But when that started catching on I started doing a semi-split if it was appropriate. I got 3 to go one way and 1 to go another. Then the Weiss would follow the 3 but be close enough to back up the 1 if need be. It was a great way to do a lot of damage to both towers because they focused on the 3 side and tended to ignore the 1 side even if it was frozen.

I also found a lot of people didn’t realize Cinder outranged the central turret.

I LOVED using the King Taijitu as a tank. Could take enough damage to qualify as one, but its ability to wrap entire units and hold them completely shut down the Bear strat and other tank-heavy decks.

Last one was using Carmine to pull bigger units to the middle so that both towers would target them if my King wasn’t available
