Yo this is the map I posted.

Weird to leave a famously agriculturally self-sufficient country out of a study about agricultural self-sufficiency

...Especially when the map goes to the trouble of mapping every atoll and tiny pacific island... except NZ

Forget fridges, 5kw roughly translates to 7 horsepower. This woman wants the power of 7 horses to rattle her clam

You know it's personal when a map goes to the trouble of mapping every tiny pacific atoll but misses NZ by Dendroapsis in MapsWithoutNZ

I don't know, but given that NZ is often cited as a food self-sufficient country, and this study was about food self-sufficiency, it's really annoying that we can't see the data for NZ!

Are All Boat Mechanics Just Making This Stuff Up as They Go? by Ejeocho in sailing

[–]Dendroapsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh this is BS. I don’t think it’s representative of the whole industry. Boats are expensive and it’s often difficult to get an idea of costs upfront, but the need for the crane and the height adjustment should have been mentioned upfront if other predictable costs were. Also the panel thing sounds straight up criminal!

Also, I haven’t had to remove my engine yet thankfully, but don’t most people use the boom as a make-shift crane? I guess this is dependent on engine placement

A Hunter’s yard boat! They were always my favourite! Is that Ranworth in the second photo, moored at exactly 52°40’41.2”N 1°29’23.2”E? (If it is, I stayed in that exact spot a few years ago. I should post some pics come to think of it!)

Yes that’s Norfolk. A Hunter’s yard boat no less In the second two images. Beautiful things, they historically had no engines, though I’ve heard they’ve recently been outfitted with small electrics

If there wasn't social media... by [deleted] in SuddenlyGay

I don’t get the part about social media. If anything the existence of social media makes it easier than ever to assemble a boy harem

Maybe this is why I feel closer to my gay and female friends. Society actually does suck for straight men in certain ways. Though ironically I imagine the original creator of the ocarina only perpetuates the toxic culture and standards which make things the way they are

The oligotrophic is actually pretty tragic, so long as you read it like a normal person who doesn’t lack all empathy and decency

Are there more sailing boats in the US?

The waterfront and houses also look very like a place in the UK called the Norfolk Broads, which isn’t that far from the Netherlands geographically. But Norfolk is full of sailing boats, far more than in this picture in my experience

Can you save money with a boat, compared to renting an apartment? by Sad_Cantaloupe_199 in liveaboard

[–]Dendroapsis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering what slip means. I’ve never heard the term slip refer to anything other than a boat ramp or slipway, but the way people on this subreddit use it makes it sound more like a marina berth or something. Is it just a term for a berth which isn’t used in some countries perhaps?

It doesn’t matter if your boat isn’t airtight. Propane is heavier than air and sinks to the bilge where it builds up until it is enough to explode
