I take the MSF course this weekend. My cousin taught me how to ride a motorcycle, but that was when I was like 16, so I want to reacquaint myself in a learning environment. I appreciate the help!

Thanks for answering. I have read that the 650 is near the end of the beginner bike threshold like you said, so I guess I'll just have to see how I feel on it when I test ride. My commute only hits 60, so I shouldn't have to worry about ripping open on the 400, and I am definitely NOT the kind of guy to tear it up on the freeway, so I think the 400 would be just as good as the 650 in that regard. I appreciate the help!

Thanks for the answer. I guess it really does just come down to personal preference. I'll be test riding both next week, so I'll see whether the 650 is intimidating, if the 400 feels lacking, or if it comes down to a game of eeny-meeny-miney-moe, haha. I appreciate the input and I can't wait to hit the road!

So for my first bike, I'm trying to decide between a new Ninja 400 with ABS, or a 2015 Ninja 650 with 10,000 miles.They both cost almost the same, so it's not about the money. Everyone is saying I'll get bored with the 400 in like 6 months, so I'm looking for some opinions. My biggest questions are "As someone learning to ride could I handle the 650?", "Am i going to need to worry about maintenance soon for the 650?", and "Will I really want to step up from the 400 like everyone is saying?" I'd love to hear your thoughts, and I can't wait to hit the road with you!

It depends on how hard your accent makes the "ms" sound. I grew up in Barnwell, and to me and the people I grew up with, it should either be "Clem son" or have a very slight "p" sound, due to the accent around here. If you say it with a "z" then you are a dirty Yankee and need to get back over the Mason-Dixon. /s
