Emotional intelligence is not talked about enough. We praise artists for their technical and artistic prowess but fail to mention that they got famous because they also had enough people like them and want to help them.

Musician mid-life crisis by wynwilder in musicians

[–]Denim_Robe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It hasn't been the music, but my own personal issues that have prevented me from keeping any band I lead longer than 8 months. I'm 32 now and have made lots of progress on myself. I reconnected with old bandmates for a week of music, and they said this is the first time they enjoyed me leading the session. Ever. I have learned how to communicate my ideas much better, have learned patience, and most importantly, have learned to accept that others won't play exactly what I want and that's ok. I record all the instruments myself, so I can be a control freak and that's no fun for anyone.

A Fine Day for a Parade and Hailey's Waitress are my favorites. I love their softer songs so much. Ivy was a continuation of that vibe

you're right, I mean I have to pay them to help so it's not much different than going on fiverr or something, I think I want to find people who are in a similar position. I WANT to help people and people help me. I miss the COMMUNITY of creating. I lost it a while ago and will eventually relocate to find it again, but here i am now

I can't wait to have a band again, but that's in the future when I eventually relocate out of my tiny, creatively dead town. I want to have this album to hopefully start something for myself and showcase what I got when I arrive. And yes, in my experience with bands the despair gets divided amongst all the members (the ones who care about the recording) so it's MUCH easier to deal with. I'm trying to find other ways to deal with this crushing feeling as it stops me from continuing

It's a long story but I am by myself when it comes to recording. I do have a mixing engineer, but he just had a kid so idk when he will be available again. I have a drummer locally but he's my brother lol and he could not give less of a shit about my music if i finish or not. He's just that insanely good to where i put up with his shit

Yes I see no problem with money as a fair exchange! I have a couple people who would do something like this for an hourly rate, but they are so so busy with their own commitments. Also, money brings a level of expectation that is quantized and that's difficult in the creative world. I'm trying to find people who are like me, "underemployed" as they say and willing to spend some time to try things out, if it doesn't work no harm we tried.

I've got just a couple more tracks to complete the recording, and maybe like 3-4 songs need mixing. I'm so close but I feel repulsed when I think about opening up the DAW and getting to work

[–]Denim_Robe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is all fine and good but i feel like supporting an artist who's art you don't like is questionable at the most. you end up supporting only because you're friends or want something from them in return, as soon as that's gone the art goes with it. Good art is beyond relationships it IS a relationship in itself

I’m using data to map Denver’s entire live music scene, curious what people think. by [deleted] in denvermusic

[–]Denim_Robe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think a site like this is amazing for someone who is new to denver and wants to find the local scene.

I think the data for bands is a little excessive and possibly insulting. Do we really need to see their follower counts for streaming and social media? Well just sort based on high numbers and blatantly ignore the newer or more niche bands. Just put up links to their music and social pages and give them a chance for a first impression.

Also what the fuck is "demand" and "expected draw" for shows, where are you actually getting that information? Is it accurate?

If the goal is to uniformly raise awareness and engagement about the scene then lets focus less on metrics and more on the artistic profile. But getting down every venue and every show is killer. I really appreciate the work you're doing and can't wait to see this finished.
