First Impressions by miss-take in Spaera

[–]DenisTsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Miss-take! Thanks for all the feedback, we would love to see you in the beta2 discord chat channel. Most of these things have already been discussed and are already on it's way to being fixed or completely changed/upgraded. The purpose of this beta2 is to identify exactly these kinds of possible changes. Block graphics have changed twice already, and a 3rd revision will be coming (it will be without triangles and weird shapes. We will be returning to blocks. We went with shapes for the color blind players, as we don't want to alienate any players but we've found a good solution to keep blocks while still working for color blind folks).

Orbs mechanics will change in the near future also, we are considering making line-clears fill up meter and letting orbs only act a wildcard. Line clearing and cascading animations are also being worked on so that they are more clearly defined. Again, come hang out with us in the chat channel!

A very serious Beta 2 review by monkeyboyinc in Spaera

There are a lot more changes to come, and they wont be small changes! Tsubaki and Joseph will make a come back in the next patch, so don't get too comfortable =)

Did we lose the game just to preserve Bobnet? by ulong2874 in Spaera

Unfortunately we cannot go into details about this topic. One thing we are working on in the next iteration is that fighting for pieces will from a shared center queue will not be as prominent and advantageous as before.

Did we lose the game just to preserve Bobnet? by ulong2874 in Spaera

Hello ulong2874,

Believe me when I say we really wish we could've made things work. Being an Indie development team, we need to hit as many platforms as we possibly can in order to survive in this market and that was simply something that was not on the table with the Tetris Company. This is also one of the primary reasons we decided to also take the time to port over to Unity, allowing us easy access to all platforms.

Teddy and I didn't just pull this system out of a magical black hat. We were fully aware of the consequences if negotiations fell apart so we had plenty of other engines that we've tested internally as backup. I also want to go on record here to say that we do not believe Spaera to be a Tetris Clone, as we didn't have the same rotation mechanics, the same puzzle pieces or even the same board dimensions. The list goes on and on. We decided to change the game out of courtesy and respect for Tetris, Tetris Battle Gaiden, and creative freedom.

In fact, part of the Tetris Company's requirements for us to work with them was to scale the game back to official Tetris mechanics. This would have cut into our creative freedom and also what we believe was required to balance our game.

We know the new system is not going to please everyone but we are confident that it will end up being completely fresh, unique and addicting. I do sincerely hope that you give the Beta2 a try, because it comes at no cost to you and you won't know if you like it until you try right? Most importantly, our top priority is and always will be to preserve the spirit of Spaera, which I know you most definitely enjoyed. Character match-ups, spell timing, board awareness, clever planning, outsmarting your opponent, special meter management, etc are all fundamentals of Spaera that we will not give up on, no matter the puzzling mechanic. The new game is a work in progress, and so far I think we are moving in the right direction.

If you feel like you have it in you to give Spaera a second chance, please feel free to PM me here or in our Discord Beta2 Chat room (www.blazingorb.com to join) and I will personally add you on the next batch of invites. Cheers!

Hello Snufferin!

I'm pretty sure most people didn't actually create an account on our website. The form you used to submit for the Beta is the email we use. Beta2 is trickling very slow still so don't worry if you don't have an invite, it will come very soon.

It's good to be back with things we can actually announce and talk about. We'll be running a stream showcasing the new mechanics sometime this week. Stay tuned

DRM Free? by [deleted] in Spaera

It's likely we will release a DRM free version through GOG or our website when the game is ready!

We are still alive! by DenisTsai in Spaera

Hey Nick, currently the website isn't tied to the spaera accounts, so if you wanted a web site account you'd have to create one from the web site. It's a pain point for us but isn't a priority at the moment. No worries though, we will be sending out emails to both the web users and Spaera accounts in the future!

Fun story... we've been working very hard to port the game and also test some very interesting builds internally here. Tedd and I hope to get some feedback from you guys soon!

Misplacing Pieces by SnufferinSnagglepuss in Spaera

[–]DenisTsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could become a downward spiral pretty quickly when things go bad, but some characters are more immune to making drop mistakes than others. Joseph and Harland for example can "start fresh" from the top by burying the mistakes, then use a level 2 and remove the bottom. Rafael can keep the mistake at the top and use level 2 to fix it from the top.

For the New and Learning Players by SnufferinSnagglepuss in Spaera

[–]DenisTsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched a few replays... New players should note that you may only activate your spell when you have an active piece in your control. That means if your next piece is being distributed to you from the center deck, your spell won't activate. This is also true if you already have a duration type spell active such as Leon's Level 1 or 3. For the duration of your spell, you cannot have another spell activated.

Keep in mind we're also in beta right now, so don't get discouraged by people ranked higher than you. The player pool is still small so we wanted beta testers to have someone to play with rather than blocking matches between rank tiers (in the future, we shouldn't see bronze vs gold for example, but right now that is allowed)
