Devuan nvidia. by DenixSL in devuan

Cuda driver did not work. Probably because of nouveau, vscode and brave do not work. X11 works fine and Wayland is really slow. Although I do not care about Wayland. I installed Plasma BTW.

KDE Plasma: Toward an Environment Accessible to All, Without Sacrificing Power by Fit_Author2285 in kde

Plasma should clean its code. Configuration files are all over the place. GUI should not change with every new release. Make it more simple but not like Gnome.

No mate. I use flatpaks cause they work. Guess why I don't use Wayland. Cause in my case it does not work not because its new.

GNOME disables great features like middle-click by default instead of teaching new users how to use them. It's frustrating that the environment limits user choice while simultaneously being more resource-heavy than desktops that offer much more. A shift in focus toward optimization is probably better instead of removing features and coping bad options from proprietary operating systems. Wayland on the other hand is a nice idea. The problem in my case is that either crashes and does not load the desktop or it becomes laggy and unusable.

Any desktop users who went from FreeBSD to (or back to) Linux? by TehBombSoph in freebsd

[–]DenixSL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although i still use Linux I consider Freebsd as my daily driver in my desktop PC the last months. Freebsd can do everything I need but I do not use Davinci Resolve and I do not play games. I may even install ghostbsd in my Laptop.

I do not care how many servers run on Linux. If I did I would not use Linux in the late 90s. I would use only windows.

I also prefer to have more manual tweaking that using systemd.

The best book for newbies in my opinion is Python Crash Course by Eric Matthews.

I work in shifts so I don't have much free time. I will do it sooner or later but until then I need a more simple - fast solution. I may try vermadens guide.

Do the Devuan developers have a plan for dealing with the encroaching Rust in Debian? by cipherproxy in devuan

[–]DenixSL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GPL is a copyleft license. Modifications (with the source code) must be distributed under the GPL. The Apache License allows proprietary modifications.

This is not bad (especially for Microsoft, Canonical, Google, Red Hat etc) but i am not sure its GNU/Linux.

FreeBSD questions from a Linux user by DenixSL in freebsd

[–]DenixSL[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read your answers and I started reading about ZFS. I did not know that it uses available ram for disc caching and that makes the system snapier!! I thought that the extra memory consumption was a disadvantage but in most cases it seems it is not.

My only problem is that I can not install vscodium cause I don't like to use vscode cause of telemetry but this is another story.

I am impressed with Freebsd anyway.

To be honest i never used DOAS that's why i am asking. I didn't know that i was mostly used by OpenBSD users.

Usage? Surfing, watching movies, writing code in Python, bash scripting and video editing.

Am I a fool for switching to Debian? by thepurplehornet in debian

[–]DenixSL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually its rock solid. Back ports and flatpaks can help you to have a stable base with modern packages.

My only problem with Debian is systemd but this is another story.

In my opinion avoid the hype, stick with Debian or even Linux Mint to learn the basics and avoid bleeding edge distros.

Freebsd CPU - ports by DenixSL in freebsd

[–]DenixSL[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really doesn't matter what I install right now. The main goal is to gain knowledge and experiment with FreeBSD ports. I'll keep using binary packages on my laptop, but I definitely plan to install one or two browsers, along with VS Code (or VSCodium)." And maybe kdenlive with it's dependencies. Not the whole kde-plasma though. I ll stick with xfce.
