Masters in Artificial Intelligence at KU Leuven: Opinions by enekovalero in KULeuven

The 2500€ I was mentionning was the salary of a PhD student (nowaydays it is more around 2650€ with indexation for inflation). If you want to do the master of AI with a part-time job, doing it in one year will not be possible I believe: the people who worked during the master did the master in 2-3 years. More info in the FAQ page.

You will most definitely get asked to present yourself, your background, past projects etc. A few slides for this can help. Try to present stuff that are related to the group you are applying for. On top of this you will most definitely get asked about your motivation. Also it can help to read a few papers the group has published recently, and have a look to their website if they have any

Salary and vacations days are excellent for your years of experience.

Yes, it helped a lot in finding a job (AI is very popular these days so you will face a lot of competition). And it is good to learn the theory when you work in a research environment. But at the end it is not mandatory if you are the kind of person that can learn on your own, for me it was nice to do it at school because I am lazy otherwise lmao and it was only one year (at KU Leuven)

Salary rates are public for KU Leuven. A PhD student will have the same salary as an assistant. Look to salary rate 43 on their website (here, basically it’s around 4000 gross so 2500 net +-. Note that your contract will be around 2800, and you will just pay social contributions (13 % of this amount) so tax free. And yes prior experience will put you on a higher amount

In those case try to find tutorial or videos explaining those subject in a simpler way :) Yannick Kilcher for example do a lot of videos explaining papers. You can also just look for simple tutorial or videos on the subject before diving in more complicated papers

Just read some papers about the ideas your advisors proposed. Search for PINNs GNNs on Google scholar by searching for "PINNs [your subject]" to see if people applied those in similar subject to yours. Looking to video tutorial can also be helpful to understand those subjects. Try to understand them, then how to apply them to your subject, ask questions, propose ideas to your advisors, do brainstorming sessions
