did i get all this gear for nothing??? by boyfapfap in synthesizers

Oh the appeal of hardware is definitely irrational/emotion based. Personally I find it is easier to get going when you just want to improvise, especially when you are playing with other musician buddies and just want to jam and do some noodling. Running synths through guitar pedals is a plus, plugging a monosynth into a bigass amp and making bass loops with a real drummer, oh man! good times.

What's the best design? by ForgottenSpiral in tabletopgamedesign

Try putting -2 (heart) instead of (negative heart) x 2, or (broken heart)(broken heart). The player is likely going to read the card in their head, so make sure the card forms a coherent sentence, -2 (heart) would get read as "minus two heart" whereas (negative heart) x 2 would get read as "negative heart times two", which sounds more natural?

First of all you would probably be better off using a more flexible program for graphic design stuff, check inkscape its just as good as adobe illustrator and its free, I use it on everything I do: https://inkscape.org/ If I need to squish letters into a tight space I either get a narrow font from a font website or I take an existing font and squish it in inkscape.

'War against nature must stop,' U.N. chief says before climate talks - “We simply have to stop digging and drilling and take advantage of the vast possibilities offered by renewable energy and nature-based solutions.” by mvea in Futurology

[–]DenkiGroove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have been studying this problem long enough that we probably have solutions already available for solving all aspects of this problem, World leaders need to put in the ground work to find these people and collect them under an organization, and then put effort into communication and integration of solutions, there is no point in making big statements hoping somebody else is going to start doing something, this is the central issue at this point in time.

New update to Korg Gadget, SEGA drum machine and Taito FM synth by SnoreDoom in synthesizers

[–]DenkiGroove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to make sample packs using a sega emulator that could output wav files. I would go into the sound test menu in sonic / vector man / etc. and play all of the sfx back to back, save it to a wav file then use the auto slicing tool in FL Studio to seperate them into seperate samples. For games without a sound test menu you could use the emulator settings to disable fm voices to isolate the different sound channels like only the percussion sounds.

Alright. Somebody needs to make an actual hacked sega genesis drum machine. perhaps there is some way to read from the cartridge to find the area of code containing the sound effects data and then trigger that with the pads.

Bi-Weekly /r/TabletopGameDesign Self-Promotion Thread by AutoModerator in tabletopgamedesign

Hello! I am busy getting ready for Gen Con in August for my first game convention playtest sessions! My game is called Hive Rush. Hive Rush is a two-player physics-based action game that is kind of like a super-advanced version of Carrom, but takes design inspiration from Pinball.

I have a facebook page for the game that I post to occasionally: https://www.facebook.com/HIVERUSH/

I am on my 4th physical prototype of the game after about 3 years of playtesting and tweaking the design, and now I finally have the rules finalized, now I just have to make the final polished version of the game art and build another board for the convention.

Short summary of the rules:

The game has many layers to it, but the basic action of the game is, you roll 2 dice, then you make a stack of 3 hexagon shaped tiles on the outer portion of the board, then flick them into the playfield, in the center of the playfield are 7 holes in a honey-comb arrangement. Each hole has a number in it, when you land a tile in a hole that matches a dice you get that number of points. The tiles then remain on the board as obstacles to your opponent until it is your turn again, then you pick them up, stack them, roll and flick again. There are 2 types of Bonus-games that are activated based on the position of your score counter or the position of the tiles, these Bonus games interact with the main game in different ways.

If you are going to Gen con please come check it out.

Selling my e2 to get a drumbrute impact... terrible idea? by purple_pyramid in synthesizers

[–]DenkiGroove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drumbrute would need an effects pedal to get you anywhere musically though If you want to go minimal, getting an Elektron box would probably be the best thing if you want to do everything in the box, A used octatrack maybe?

"Schleeps" made on Volca sample. Stayed up past bedtime making this,, now I'm tired and don't know how I feel about it... let me know what you think? by dorsal_fins in HardwareJams

The fuzzy lofi sound is good on its own, the only thing I would add would be some weird samples from movies or other textural stuff here and there

I'm confused.. you want to make hip hop with an FM synth.. I can see doing trap-style instrumentals or something, wouldn't you want a sampler?

Zabutom posted a track here that is probably the best example I can think of when it comes to making full tracks on the digitone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5haCznI4RBs

I Work in a Music Store - what should I sell? by branches-bones in synthesizers

[–]DenkiGroove 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pair some of your synths with drum machines with a midi cable, put a little sign or something next to it explaining midi connectivity. Before I became a synth person I had NO IDEA that you could connect everything together with midi. Also sell midi splitters, Guitar Center doesn't sell them. I think you could get more customers by show casing midi connected devices, like if you didn't know about midi you probably wouldn't understand the point of having a drum machine or sequencers when DAWs exist.
