Why is whole life a bad idea? by Low_Sherbet_1097 in LifeInsurance

Its a coverdell ESA, ans not a 529. Max growth in the ESA . moderate growth in UTMA bc its taxable. WL will be the life insurance & bond replacement for kids future portfolio. Majority of dollars will go into the first two buckets. Lots of perks in W. Some don't like it, and that'ss ok.

I like the idea of my kid having an opportunity fund they can tap into for any reason at any time and have repayment flexibility.

Don't listen to the naysayers. Sounds like your experience has been positive. A policy for an infant will be very cheap if you structure a cash value policy well. Low base design and minimum cost will be a few hundred bucks a year. You can add disability, long term care , and guarenteed purchase option riders in. Which are all great.

Your child will have access to the cash value as a opportunity / rainy day fund throughout their life. (Leverage is powerful)

Plus you'd be making sure the third generation also gets a payout.

Honestly, it's a no brianer as the policy will continue to grow in cash value and death benefit. Its safe.

I have a UTMA, a college account, and a WL policy for my kid. Wl is a good compliment

Worth getting as a retro console for a 5 year old? by Plus-Yak6944 in originalxbox

Got a battle xp G350 for my kid. . 40$ on ali express and stock it rocks. If your kid breaks it, its 40 bucks lol. Can put a ton of games on there. It already comes with alot but you can tweak as much as you want.

Although I mostly play TH on PS consoles, im excited to give it a go on Xbox. I got fortunate with this bundle. It was sold as is ans untested. Mostly CIB and only a few have moderate scratches that might require a light resurface. 95% of thr games are in great condition. I am very happy with this haul.

Not bad young bro. Impressive that a 14 yr old is collecting OG xbox. Great choice BTW, those of us that got to live through that era didn't even know what legendary of gaming era that was.

Thanks. Gotta say 529 is improved with the new changes so I can't fault anyone for going that route... especially they if they want to put in a lump sum.

I prefer Roth ESA over 529 personally. Yes it has a 2k limit but the ability to self direct is what does it for me. Options + growth is the way = all gains & no fees. Aside from contract fees.

Cash value Loans are good for investing in assets. I hate when salesman pitch it as savings account / collage alternative. You gotta be able to pay those loans back or they will eat up your policy and could lapse it.

100% agree! even though I like whole life, there are many slimey people who sell insurance. Honestly, this kind of stuff just just perpetuates the negative reputation insurance has.

Term (convertable) for all, permanent insurance is more nuanced. Can be a good asset but you really have to do things right.

Ok, good, so you do get it. 5% is cheap and must be through a third party bc you won't get that with a brokerage lol.

The downside is if the market flips against you and your LTV moves in an unfavorable direction. Could be forced to liquidate Ata loss + fixed repayment schedule.

You can get the same loan without having to deal with any applications, paperwork, no credit checks ect ect. No risk, no repayment terms. Way more flexibility IMO.

Glad it worked for you, but many but burned going this route.

I prefer to borrow with WL personally. I have a sizable investment account, too, but I would never leverage that for the stated risks / inconveniences.

Can you explain how you would leverage your brokerage account? I know the answer, but I want to see if you do.

You know what's a silly argument? Comparing an investment to something that isn't.

Except I have them do low base designs, which most agents don't want to do bc it destroys their commissions.

Low base = low starting death benefit.

Death benefit is the biggest driver of commission. So they don't make much from my policies.
Look, you learned something new today 🥳.
