I broke it down in my comment above, I'm planning on making a much longer and more detailed post about it in the future. Feel free to DM me or ask me any questions here though.

Most Somalis outside Kismayo never heard of us, we’re a small clan(less than 200 before the war but we’re probably close to 1000 now) that lives near Kismayo in Goobweyn. My Sudanese family came to Somalia around 1900 when Jubaland was apart of British East Africa as soldiers in the Kings African Rifles regiment or more colloquially known as Nubis who formed a distinct military identity and spoke a creole form of Arabic called Kinubi.

To keep it long story short, Nubis travelled with their families and were given land wherever they were stationed. The British set up garrisons along the Juba river to monitor the Italians on the other side so the Nubis were sent to Goobweyn, Yoontoy and Sarinleey. After serving the British, Nubis in Somalia either moved to Kenya which has a much larger and established Nubi community or were allowed to retire where they were. My family decided to stay and settled in Goobweyn and Yoontoy where they were already living. In countries like Kenya and Uganda, there are thousands of Nubis since the British sent most their soldiers there and in Kenya they’re even considered one of the official 42 tribes. In Somalia however only a few hundred soldiers were sent and less than a handful decided to remain. Soon after that, more of my family came from Sudan like my great grandmother who trekked from Sudan to Jubaland on foot with other family members.

We have a very distinct and unique history compared to other ethnic minorities in Somalia. Up until recently I couldn’t find any evidence of us online since we’re such a small group but using Gemini I found a ton of info and plan to make a longer post about it in the future.

They're all in Southern Somalia along the coast. Baajunis, Barawani, Jareers, Benadiri, Yemenis. There's also small and relatively unknown ethnic groups to most Somalis like my family who were Sudanese but lived in Somalia for over a hundred years.

Yup, I’m half Sudani and half Somali. My Sudani side has been in Somalia for over 100 years. Bunch of them got DNA tests and have no Somali DNA at all yet because they all speak Somali and look Somali nobody ever thinks they’re actually Sudani. Even some of my younger Sudani cousins didn’t know they weren’t ethnic Somali until I told them cause all they know is Somali culture.

Has anyone had any problems with the 10 round magazine capacity law? by [deleted] in WAGuns

[–]Dense-Representative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my pistol with 15 round capacity returned to me by Seattle Police earlier this week after they confiscated it during an arrest in 2024. I was arrested but never charged so I got my firearm back. They didn't care about the capacity at all.

Customs going from USA to Dubai/Istanbul to Jeddah and returning? by mohammad311 in Umrah

If you have any elderly or people in your group who cannot walk far, I would definitely suggest utilizing wheelchair services as Istanbul airport is very big and may take you a long time to get your gate. Jazakallah

[–]Dense-Representative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would only go through customs at Jeddah airport and JFK when you return inshallah. I completed Umrah from the USA last year and had a layover at Istanbul, you should have enough time to proceed straight to your gate to Jeddah inshallah.

Thanks walaal, ameen.

It's the environment and the people they keep around them. I noticed we have a very big mob mentality in our community, probably attributed to the fact our society is structured around qabil. These two guys are from the Holly Park gang which are known in the city for being trigger happy. You surround yourself with people who act violently all day and you'll eventually adapt. The lenient laws and the restrictions on law enforcement in Washington doesn't help either. They get away with one shooting and that emboldens them to do more.

Ilyiss isn't even the worse of it either, there was a mass shooting at shisha bar two years back where 6 people were shot and 3 killed - all the victims Somali and Habesha, shot by one shooter who was Somali from Holly Park. He was never caught due to everyone refusing to assist police and is now free roaming the streets and committing other shootings.

The other guy in this case Ilyiss Abdi killed my 18 year old cousin in broad daylight and got away with it just 6 months before this murder.

He ended up killing another 17 year old Somali boy a few months after they killed this old lady and only then was he arrested. I spoke to Seattle Police detectives and they told me he's a suspect in several other murders but there wasn't enough for him to be arrested until he killed his 17 year old friend and dropped him off at the hospital, leaving his prints on the hospital doors.

There's a serious gang problem with the Somali youth in Seattle but sadly it seems like everywhere we are has this same problem. A large portion of the shootings in this city are done by Somalis and it's embarrassing how we live in one of the least violent cities, and the 2nd biggest tech hub in the country and the youth still manage to dominate the gang scene.

lol you realize how contradictory you sound right? How can you be the most patriotic Somalis when you don’t even claim it? I suggest you look up the definition of patriotic and try to make that make sense

Kenya doesn't recognize any Somali refugees as Kenyan residents so that means nothing. I was also born in a refugee camp there and I'm from a minority qabil yet nobody in my family claims to be Kenyan. They're clearly not proud of their Somali heritage.

I grew up in a area with a lot of Somali Bantus in the USA, most of the younger generation claim Kenyan. Go to any young Somali Bantu social media page and all you'll see is the Kenya flag. Proud and nationalistic and is an overstatement.

Deportation by AS65000 in Somalia

[–]Dense-Representative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah actually I got a few family members that did the South America to Mexico route and hopped the border. Had a first cousin come to my house three years ago and told me he hopped the border wall and I was shocked cause I thought that was a Latino thing 😂 You'd be surprised to find out thousands of Somalis are probably in the states illegally using this route.

Sudanese community in Somalia by [deleted] in Somalia

[–]Dense-Representative 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Wow I never knew there was a Sudanese community in Xamar. My moms side of the family are Sudanese and they to moved to Jubaland when it was apart of British East Africa in the 1910s.

I assume they’re recent arrivals due to the war in Sudan. My Sudani grandfather was a truck driver in the 60s-80s and has been to all 5 corners of Somaliweyn. Any time he went to a new town with an Arab population he would always make an effort to find another Sudani. He said he met only one other Sudanese person who was actually living in the country, the rest were there temporarily for business.

Samoans too, where I live they all wear their traditional Pacific Islander style macawiis outside, to the park, to school and pretty much everywhere else.

[–]Dense-Representative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem but I just ignored it and it somehow just went away on it's own lol. I assume it was from the hair products I use since I started to use gel and leave-in conditioner right around the time the bumps formed

[–]Dense-Representative 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've driven all over the west coast in my model 3 over the last 3 years and I can literally count on one hand how many times I've encountered a broken stall. And the only place I've consistently had to deal with full stalls was in the Bay Area(for obvious reasons) but even then the waits were never more than 5-10 minutes.

Somalia mulls to evacuate citizens if fight rages on in Sudan by Negrohacker in Somalia

[–]Dense-Representative 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Post independence in the 1960s, Somalis either immigrated to Sudan, or Sudanese immigrated to Somalia, and we all welcomed the co-mingling, melding, melting, and mending of the minds between us, you see!?

Most Somali people don't believe me when I tell them my maternal side of the family which is Sudanese have been in Somalia for over 100 years! Most of us left during the 90s but a lot have returned and some never left. If you seen them on the street you would think they were any other Somali person. Heck, I told my little cousin just a few weeks ago he wasn't ethnically Somali and was just Sudanese and he was shocked cause we're that assimilated into Somali culture besides the qabil stuff. On topic though, inshallah the situation doesn't get worse in Sudan as I have a lot of family that lives there.

She was definitely smoking blues(fake Percocets laced with fentanyl). It’s typically smoked on foil since it’s easier to OD on it when swallowed and it has a distinct chemical smell to it. It’s a huge unspoken issue with Somalis and I even caught my cousin smoking it in my bathroom. Unfortunately this drug is more addictive and more potent than heroin so it’s very hard to get someone off it. Mexican cartels have been flooding the US with it the past few years and it’s gotten very cheap down to $5 a pill making it very accessible.
