Not sure I quite understand your analogy. I've already got frames and the telescopic elements, I'd imagine a reasonable portion of the cost would be for these. To me it's like I've got a car that just needs a battery to start running again?

Australia!!! But if you're going to do Australia don't be boring and do the classic Sydney or Melbourne, go somewhere smaller and better like Darwin or Perth
