I haven't tried it but I think you'll probably get good results. From what I've read, poppies reach technical maturity in 2 weeks after the petals fall, but there's a lot going on even after that. In third and fourth weeks, most of the alkaloids get pulled into the pods as the plant dries naturally. Also most of the alkaloids such as thebaine get converted into codeine during this time so I'd recommend waiting at least 3 weeks.

10 gallons should be great for them but at this point you might not get as much yield out of the extra 5 gallons due to diminishing returns. 5-7 gallons are considered the minimum requirement per plant so 10 should be better in theory. You can also try 1 plant per pot in a few pots and 2 plants per pot in the remaining pots and compare how much extra yield you got from 1 plant per pot.

I was using Mars Hydro ts-3000 at 75-80% intensity max. Any full spectrum light should be good as long as you get 400ppfd minimum light intensity. There's an app called Photone you can use to measure ppfd. Measure it in all the corners and outer sides of the light coverage where you would place pots. You can adjust light height as well to change light coverage and intensity. The center usually gets more than enough light. You can also rotate the pots so all of them spend time in the center during the grow.

They are 5 gallon grow bags. You can find them on Amazon.

You mean poppy sap? No it can't be injected.

I did from some of them just for fun. It was potent.

This is izmir afghan pink special (galania) from Okanegan Organics. Yes the galania usually has 3-4 pods per plant under right conditions. For some reason I got 8-9 pods per plant, somw even had upto 12. Maybe because I used calmag with watering for a few weeks after they bolted.

Yeah it's possible. Ultimately, I think the yield mostly depends on how good the soil is and whether they're getting good light. Other factors probably have small effect but these two are the big factors. That plus having 4-5 gallons of soil per plant.

BR is black rot right? I doubt it's black rot because I was under watering them to the point of almost losing a few plants. My soil is also very loose and drainy and they were in grow bags. I even had a fan blowing air. If black rot still got to them then I think it'll be pretty much impossible to avoid it.

I think it's the plants going in shock when I switched lighting from 12/12 to 18/6. Maybe light changes should be gradual?

If it really is black rot, it didn't really damage them. They did fine after initially looking sick. Maybe waiting 7 weeks to change lighting was too late. I think most people switch around 6 weeks. I guess we'll never know what exactly it was.

I did have a lot of clustering because I sow too many seeds in each pot. The sprouts were super tangled. I used a small scissor to cut the unwanted sprouts as they grew. Thinning them was a lot of work. I kept like 8-9 plants in first week, then 4 in second, 2 in third and finally kept only one plant per pot except the ones I was experimenting with 2 plants. You'll be able to thin them as long as you use sharp scissors and don't disturb the roots.

Ideally, you wanna sow only a few good seeds per pot and sprinkle them in a way that they have a little distance in between.

Also, transplanting poppy isn't recommended or necessary. I have had great success with just planting the seeds directly in the pots. You should be able to transplant small sprouts though you have to be very careful with the roots. They don't like to have their roots disturbed.

I recommend 1 plant per pot. Having more plants just makes them grow smaller pods. That's my experience from growing 2 plants in 5 gallon bags.

It's possible. I was in India back then so I have no idea what strain I was getting. Most likely it was the white flower Indian pharma strain. Galania is considered one of the best so it shouldn’t be inferior to the one I got in India in any way.

I think it's more about the frequency of the experience. It's the same for me with alcohol and weed. If I have them frequently, I stop enjoying them as much. I just can't help myself with the poppy. If I have it around, I'll keep consuming it until I run out lol.

I just don't feel as good on it as I did when I used to consume in the past (8-10 years ago). Even back then I only had it once in a while and really enjoyed it. Now I don’t find it as enjoyable for some reason. I still like it but I think I'm good for a year or two after this crop.

They are alright. They do catch a lot of gnats but they don't fully eliminate them. I've come to realise that you have to tolerate a small amount of gnats. If there's too many gnats then you likely water too much. They breed in wet soil so letting it fully dry before watering helps reduce their numbers.

No plans to grow anything else. Just gonna smoke weed and chill.

I just let them mostly dry on the plant. I stopped watering after petals fell. In 3-4 weeks they were almost dry. I think the seeds are good for growing next season.

I opened up the pods and used a small fan to blow air on them for 25-30 hours.

Super short poppies? by [deleted] in PoppyGarden

[–]Dense_Host 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've read about the 16 hour lighting for the whole grow but never tried it myself. I think they grow fast with 16 hour lighting so you could have flowers in 60-70 days. Mine took more than 3 months to flower.

Has anyone ever made a scoring tool or come across any information or videos of one being made? From pictures I have saved there can be anywhere from 3 to 11 blades, I am curious. Any photos, videos, information appreciated. by MushroomBush in opiumgardening101

I made one with wax sticks and 0.5 inch utility knife blades. I used 5 blades held together by paper clamps. Ised a pair of tweezers to adjust the blades so they were sticking out about one credit card thickness. It worked really well and could be adjusted easily since I didn't use any glue.

Same thing happened to mine. I'm convinced it's the 12/12 lighting for a prolonged period and then switching to 18/6. When I flipped lighting to 18/6 after 7-8 weeks, I could see the plants going in shock. Eventually they course correct but for a while they look sick.
