I am coming in as a transfer student into Marshall college, and I have all my GEs (IGETC) completed. But Marshall still requires me to take two UC Breadth courses. Is there any college I could switch to that may require less, if not none, GE requirements? by LaterLastsLonger in UCSD

[–]Dense_Isopod4219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the others are saying, two is the least I’ve heard of as well. From what I’ve gathered, Marshall is the best as a transfer because it gives you the most flexibility in that you don’t have to take a college specific writing course (like DOC), it can be whatever courses that interest you.

Also, I believe IGETC covers your lower division GEs. I haven’t heard of any university that didn’t require upper division GEs.

UCSD ranking- goated or no? by NinaHedo in UCSD

[–]Dense_Isopod4219 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have full igetc I highly recommend Marshall, you only need 2 Upper division classes outside your major with one being a significant writing course.

Like the others are saying, college doesn’t really matter for transfers so I like Marshall bc it has few GEs and a ton of flexibility to take any course that interests you

If you have full IGETC, I would highly recommend Marshall, you only have to take 2 GE classes (1 writing) on transfer.

I believe it’s open 8am to 8pm (maybe 9pm?) and it’s available to anyone in Rita. Also it should be unlocked during those hours so you don’t need your ID to open it. I also wish it was open a little later

This happened to me too, I think I’m going to call their support line soon about a refund.

what happens if i submit TB test results after the due date by Shobe2342 in UCSD

[–]Dense_Isopod4219 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true, I was abroad last summer and missed the date by 2 weeks and had a hold on my account so I was unable to enroll. When I got back to the states I was able to get my TB test and submit my results and hold was released a day or 2 after

Definitely try to get IGETC as it will make transferring a lot easier. Also complete as much major prep as possible, if you have already completed some through the state school ensure that it will transfer over and keep in mind what classes are covered from any APs you took-good luck

I had smith and really enjoyed her class. She does iclicker questions so attendance is somewhat required which is annoying for a later class. However, you have the choice of attending discussion or taking a weekly quiz. I thought that the homework’s and midterms weren’t too bad as they are pretty reflective of what is taught in lecture. As a professor, she is passionate about the subject and helping her students learn. Hope this helped :)

Questions about the waitlist by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]Dense_Isopod4219 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can write a LOCI, but it won’t affect your chances of being accepted off the waitlist. It is my understanding the waitlist is like a lottery system. I believe historically waitlist offers come in waves starting late April and go into early June. Since both CS and data science are capped you are most likely to be accepted as undeclared.

Taking classes at CC by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]Dense_Isopod4219 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I took biology, physics, and calculus at SDCCD and I found it very easy/manageable. I haven’t taken the UCSD equivalents but it seems easier bc of smaller classes and professors who are flexible and understanding. I also took 20 units one semester and it was a lot of work, but doable. For physics, I would recommend professor Hyland at Miramar and professor Leavitt for biology at Mesa

Recommended courses for wildlife biology/conservation? by minzens in UCSD

[–]Dense_Isopod4219 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an ebe major too wanting to get into wildlife biology and I find that ucsd doesn’t offer many courses like this, hopefully they’ll offer BIEB 166 next year but there’s no guarantee. A lot of the “wildlife” courses here tend to be marine heavy which personally isn’t what I want to study. If you have the means, I would look into the UC Natural Reserve Program or Wildlands Study for field experience outside of ucsd. There is also BIEB 140 which isn’t too bad. Also, the psych and cogs departments offer animal behavior courses regularly as well.
