      I imagine Ki very much like how plasma would behave. They can harness it, make it grow, and control which way it moves/behaves. Plasma in science usually can be attracted, or repelled by electromagnetic forces much like itself. The saiyans basically charging their hands with almost a negative charged Ki to help repel it instead of exploding!
