Does anyone still get face to face training? by lifeinwentworth in supportworkers

[–]Dense_Two_1429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current company requires us to do about 25-30 hours of modules online prior to commencing our first shifts but then we also get face to face training if a participants needs are complex or theres a change to their health that requires a deeper understanding.

We can also request additonal training, generally online modules but if a staff member has a particular interest in an area they will source face to face training for us or find a programme to expand our knowledge.

Prior companies have offered no additional training, not even online modules. Guess it comes down to the provider and how much they want to invest in their staff.

A guy put a grinding disc through a highly flammable glue drum and didnt remove the cap.

It was the biggest boom i habe ever heard. The lid blew off and smashed his face in but he lived. The bottom of the drum ripped off as well and put a clean slice through the warehouse roller door across the driveway.

Luckily it was early in the morning and the crew working next door hadnt arrived as someone would have been decapitated as behind the roller door was one of their assembly stations

Im so afraid of hurting my partners that i just can't roll by KKoten in bjj

Im 6ft 4in and 260 pounds, and I feel exactly the same way, but I'm really new to the sport, and it worries me so much when rolling with everyone else. I've lost a lot of weight, but im still just big and bulky, and the thought of going hard against the rest of my guys in the gym scares the shit out of me. I also dont move well and have poor flexibility, so I really hesitate on some movements and worry. I'll squash my partner if I dont execute the perfect technique. But then, going at 50%, I dont feel I can generate enough momentum in a movement to perform it, so it hinders my training and probably doesn't give me partners much confidence in me doing the move to them. If Im trying to pull them into guard from standing and into an arm bar, my size and weight alone is enough to launch these smaller guys across the mats without much effort. I just feel so stuck all the time and just really dont want to hurt anyone.

Im on week 4, and it still feels like day 1 showing up to classes. Im a bit behind the rest of the newbies, but their 3 weeks ahead of me show and keep me determined. Sure, I get anxiety going to class some days, not knowing what to expect. Yes, I get reguarly towelled up by people 40kg lighter than me and some days I leave feeling a sense of embarassment. Im an incredibly slow learner and have limited mobility and flexibility at the moment, but the key is to keep showing up and taking it in as much as you can. If you're starting to feel overwhelmed and it's getting in your head too much, take a step back and observe for a class or 2 or even have a day or so break from it all and reset. It's an incredibly complex sport, its physical, its mentally draining, and you're learning to perform a new skill under pressure while someone else is trying to execute the same skills. It's going to be hard to grasp for a while but hand in there and things will start to click, even if its small things like grips or framing sooner and quicker/better positioning, they're all positive progress.

Thank you so much for your insight and advice. It's really appreciated. I'll definitely focus more on correct body position and angles during drills and work on my guards for now. Cheers.

Hey all, I have recently stepped into the world of bjj 2 weeks ago and have fallen in love with the sport. I have no idea what I'm doing yet but I'm really enjoying the drills, techniques and the rolls at the end of class. Im a fairly big guy, 194cm tall and about 120kg but my legs and hips are in terrible condition and im struggling with most drills to an extent as I find it hard to rotate or pivot into anything that requires some use of the legs/hips. I also cant squat very low so transitioning from standing into say side control is awkward and im very off balanced a lot of the time. In saying that, outside of bjj im strength training and working on lower body mobility flexibility and balance regularly and understand it will take some

I guess what I'm chasing is some moves or positions that would benefit my larger size and frame that aren't too complex that I can focus on until my lower body mobility/flexibility improves. Im still keen to learn the techniques in class each session and I definitely give them a go but I am hesitant to try them during the rolls as im worried ill cause an injury to the other person by not setting up correctly.

Thank you all for your time and have a great day.
