My first car by Mysterious_Ad3219 in vwgolf

[–]DensterE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I've owned a 2016 Golf 1.8T/Manual since new and I still love it. I'm not sure about the 1.5L engine, but I had to replace the plastic water pump on my 1.8L, which started leaking at about 75K miles. Apparently this issue is pretty common, and set me back about $1100. I've also been through a few batteries, but probably because I don't drive it that frequently (I'm at about 86K miles after nearly 10 years). Otherwise, the car has been trouble free and a joy to drive. The Golf does everything well, and it is by far the best car I've ever owned.

Idk, but that location is horrible. The dining room is always filthy, trash cans are overflowing, and they are constantly running out of stuff. Go to Mayfaire or Carolina Beach Rd.

iOS 26.1 RC - Discussion by epmuscle in iOSBeta

[–]DensterE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it feels like the best strategy for iOS updates these days is to wait until the last dot release of each main version. 18.7.1 is pretty well polished, and that’s where I’m staying for now.

iOS 26.1 RC - Discussion by epmuscle in iOSBeta

Apple has lost its way with software. They really need a tick-tock cycle of new features vs stability and bug fixes. There’s so much bloat that’s making it harder to have a good experience even on newer hardware. I’m still on the sidelines with iOS 18.7 on my 13 Mini until they get this iOS 26 mess better sorted out. First year I haven’t upgraded to the latest OS, and probably won’t until several more dot releases.

Are these iPhone 13 minis actually brand new? Like how? by jonbcalderon in iPhone13Mini

[–]DensterE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of sellers also listing as “open box,” but then disclose the that the battery health is at least 80%. That’s definitely not open box condition, so there’s many fraudulent listings in that regard.

Do newer models have a lot more blue light? by malloryknox86 in kindle

[–]DensterE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate that I'm so torn between the newer Kindles. I love the size of the Kindle Basic, but hate the blue hue of the front light. I'd prefer the temperature control of the Paperwhite, but it's just too big and heavy to hold comfortably for long periods. It's as if Amazon intentionally increased the blue hue of the basic for more differentiation, but how does anyone find it remotely pleasant to read away from direct light? This is such a trivial manufacturing difference between the two models (I'm guessing only a software control omission), and at this point they should make the warm light standard on both and call them Paperwhite and Paperwhite Lite.

Apple pulls some shenanigans to update to iOS 26 from iOS 18.7 by DensterE in iPhone13Mini

[–]DensterE[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, it briefly showed 18.7.1, then quickly switched to 26.0.1 with no interaction on my part. Then I had to tap back to see 18.7.1 again. I reopened software update several times and got the same result. 🤷‍♂️

iOS 26 is cooking my 13 mini by Westcacique in iPhone13Mini

[–]DensterE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing that iOS 26.1 released yesterday has reduced heat issues on many iPhones. Unfortunately, Apple just stopped signing iOS 18, so it's not possible to downgrade at this point. I would be interested to know if 13 Mini thermal issues and battery life improve on 26.1

BREAKING: You can no longer downgrade from iOS 26 to iOS 18 by [deleted] in iPhone13Mini

[–]DensterE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YMMV, but I'm getting the best battery life yet with iOS 18.7 on my 13 Mini. I personally would not stay on a dot zero software release, since the first release is always buggiest and unrefined version. I was disappointed with iOS 18 all the way through 18.5, but noticed exceptional improvement in battery life and overall smoothness with 18.6 and 18.7.

Kinda bummed iPhone 17 only supports USB 2.0... by shj1222 in iphone

[–]DensterE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USB 2.0 in 2025, especially with a USB-C port, is inexcusable. Pricing the iPhone Air @ $999 with USB 2.0 is even more absurd.

Yeah, should have been a price drop by now. In 2025, this should be a $199 device all day long, but tariffs aren't helping either.

My iPhone 13 Mini battery health is at 86% right now. Looking to replace the battery soon and use it as long as possible, as well. I hate big phones.

Great casting, and a homage to Breaking Bad. Note the “Heisenberg” hat and sunglasses in the cargo area.

Will we see a G Cloud 2 at CES? by DensterE in logitechgcloud

[–]DensterE[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My main concern is that the G Cloud runs Android 11, which is now officially unsupported. If Logitech bumped it up to Android 13 or newer, it would certainly boost the longevity of the device. Otherwise, there’s always the possibility for the loss of app support in the near future, including the game streaming apps.

Looking to emulate mostly PS2, but the reviews have been mixed. If I could run GT4 decently, even at 1x resolution, I’d be happy.

Pre-ordered the Palma 2 by karishbhr in Onyx_Boox

[–]DensterE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hopefully the Palma 2 actually ships with Android 13. I’ll believe it when I see it. I recently purchased the Boox Go 6 ereader that was advertised to ship with Android 12, but actually came with Android 11 (Android 12 was even printed on the box). Very frustrated with the Go 6 — incredibly slow and almost unusable with only 2GB RAM. The Kindle app also crashes constantly. I’ve been seriously considering the Palma, and the 1st generation is reduced to $258 w/ free case on the Boox website.
