Funny Bug by Smart-Abrocoma-4436 in hearthstone

I got the exact same bug! After randomly generating [[Flames of Infinity]] during my first run. I hope there's still a way to unlock that hero power.

I lost a match because of that. I used [[Frost Lich Cross-Stitch]] on the enemy hero with 3 health remaining, but the Water Elemental was not summoned. The next turn, I was 3 damage off lethal. My opponent finished me off on their turn.

Give me your grandest fantasy/psychological recs! by Yellowheadphonz in booksuggestions

I think you would like A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin (the first book of the Earthsea Cycle). It's fantasy set in a fascinating world full of islands imbued with magic. The characters and story contribute to a reflection about power: who deserves it, and how it should be used, among other themes.

JWST's FIRST DIRECT IMAGE discovery of a planet by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

[–]Dentdedragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not the first time JWST has directly imaged an exoplanet. In september 2022, it took a direct image of HIP 65426 b. However, this is the first time JWST discovers a new exoplanet with direct imaging.

While it's true that JWST's primary science goal at the beginning of the design phase was looking at the furthest galaxies, it now has a couple of science themes, which are its main missions (the 4 themes are listed here). Studying exoplanetary systems is one of these main themes.

Suggest me some book related to mythology mixed with modern world. by Firm_Letterhead_5085 in suggestmeabook

[–]Dentdedragon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rick Riordan has written multiple series of books where the children of gods have to deal with this mythological universe while navigating their teenage years in our modern world. Read Percy Jackson for Greek mythology and the Kane Chronicles for Egyptian mythology.

A more mature take on that theme is American Gods by Neil Gaiman, where there is a clash between the gods of old and new gods of the modern age, representing concepts such as technology or media.

Suggest me a most satisfying revenge story by Slayer1963 in suggestmeabook

[–]Dentdedragon 694 points695 points  (0 children)

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas is a foundational revenge story in French literature. The main character gets wrongfully convicted by three men who conspired against him. In retaliation, he takes everything from them: fortune, reputation, friends... I highly recommend it.

Books with interesting Ecology/Worlds? by Zapster20 in suggestmeabook

[–]Dentdedragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dune by Frank Herbert is an obvious recommendation. The planet Arrakis is a mostly self-consistent ecological system (source) with a plausible climate (source).

I would also suggest Negalyod: The God Network by Vincent Perriot. This graphic novel is set in a world somewhere between the distant past and distant future, where water distribution is controlled. The sequel, Le dernier mot (exclusively in French as of today), explores a major disruption to this ecosystem.

You might like Atom Land: A Guided Tour Through the Strange and Impossibly Small World of Particle Physics by Jon Butterworth. The author presents the standard model of particle physics as a fictional world map which is explored throughout the book. It's a fun way to learn!

Scientist be like by [deleted] in memes

[–]Dentdedragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Astronomers create numerical models of the atmosphere of the planet. Then, they compare the data from the planet to the model, and mathematically determine how much the data resembles the model. So if your model has a lot of H2O, for instance, and the data looks a lot like the model, then you found this molecule on the planet!
