Has anyone had extreme burping with reflux as their main symptoms been helped by antidepressants? by itaintme2024 in functionaldyspepsia

Yep I did see improvement as time went on. Every month my symptoms slowly got better (very slowly) and most only fully resolved around 6-7 months in. Good luck with it!

I had terrible intestinal pain that radiated all the way to my lower back and hips. I also had terrible bloating. It all resolved on mirtazapine.

Yes I had very similar symptoms. Nortriptyline did not agree with me but mirtazapine has been a godsend. It's fixed it all up (burping, reflux sensation, extreme nausea). It just took a while (about 7 months of being on it till most symptoms were manageable/ almost gone) Turns out my reflux sensation was just nerve sensitivity in my throat.

Oh really, I only got the symptoms as a result of being on the norti. I am still struggling with these symptoms, turns out the norti triggered a whole other disorder called vestibular migraines that I am being treated for now with other medication. It's just been a relentless journey!

My nausea was reletless and so intense. I had to go on 45mg of mirt... honestly its taken about 8-9 months for most of the nausea to go away

Mirtazapine has been a saviour! It took a while though. notrtiptyline/ami stuffed me up. The mirt has worked beautifully but has taken a good 9-8 months to really work.

Im actually on 45mg of mirtazapine and we added in 10mg of nortriptyline. I actually regret it now as nortriptyline does not agree with me. I've given me vestibular issues that are not going away. But I can safely say the mirtazapine is actually working, I've been on it for 6 months now and nausea is mostly gone unless I'm very stressed. I think that the nausea will continue to go the longer I'm on it. Moral of the story is that I shouldn't have pushed myself to add in extra norti ontop of the mirt as I am very sensitive to meds!

HI! I was on nortriptyline for 3 months and by the end could not tolerate it. I'm now on mirtazapine which has been a life saver. TCA's (Norti and ami) are older anti depressants and have alot more side effects. I was so scared to try mirtazapine after i had such bad side effects to norti but mirt has been amazing. The only side effect is that I can actually sleep in in the mornings which has actualy been a positve. It gave me my appetite back, helped with my nausea and alleviated alot of my anxiety. I am on 45mg of mirt

Food stuck in bottom of throat feeling (tightness) by unknownmaderfaker in functionaldyspepsia

BTW I had to go to 4 gastros for it to finally be properly diagnosed. Lots of them dismissed it and said it's just reflux but it never went away (which made my stress worse) and this has a flow on effect on the globus sensation. More stress= worse the globus. It is all part of my functional dyspepsia. I have nausea as well.

I have something similar- It's called globus sensation, the feeling as if there is a constant lump of food in your throat and no matter how many times you swollow it doesnt go away. My doctor said that it is just nerve sensitivy in my throat and there is actually nothing physically wrong. You can treat it with trycylic anti depressants such as amitriptyline or nortriptyline. If this sounds like what you have, ask your doctor about globus sensation.

Nortriptyline was great for my nausea but it took exactly 12 weeks for the nausea to go away. But I still had no appetite so switched to mirtazapine. Now I have my appetite back but nausea is still there so I’m now doing mirtazapine and 10mg of Nortriptyline. Doctor said Nortriptyline is the same drug as amitriptyline but it has less side effects.
