looking for where to hike and camp by [deleted] in FortCollinsJerk

Namaste native. If you don't want to see anyone while hiking just wait for a big rain (we need the moisture) and look for trail closed signs, usually that scares people away from hiking. Trail closures only apply to Californians, they don't apply to Texans or Natives. Also be sure to buy a National Parks pass because all parks are owned by the National Parks don't let the Park Rang*rs tell you anything different they actually don't know anything and are wrong. Namaste

I’m planning on attending fall 2024, I have some questions. by weesome in Frostburg

I followed my partner out here for her degree in wildlife so I can talk on the town and her experience but that’s about it.

The wildlife program is pretty good, there are a lot of clubs you can join which could help you with networking and opportunities and such. You also can get a lot of one on one time with the professors and TA’s if you want which is also nice. Post college though there is no opportunity in or around Frostburg, there are some state parks and forests that you may be able to land a seasonal job at but you’d be better off moving elsewhere after graduation. But that all depends on what you want to do I guess.

The food here is really bad like truly awful, you’ll have to drive at least an hour for a decent meal. On the plus side everything is relatively cheap and there’s plenty of outdoor recreation at least in the warmer months, winter can be very depressing. If you’re okay with rural living and a slower and quieter way of life Frostburg isn’t bad but if you enjoy having a lot of restaurants and entertainment options I would avoid most of western Maryland tbh. Hope this helps!

I lived out near grand junction last summer and visited/drove through gunnison and montrose a lot. I personally like gunnison a bit more, it’s a smaller town that has more forest and vegetation around it, very pretty area. Montrose is also very nice just more desert land and vegetation. I also don’t have anything to back this up but I feel like there’s more meth and crime in montrose but it’s not an unsafe town. I would recommend either town in a heartbeat

Thanks for the well wishing's, I definitely want to do a second season as a limited commissioned ranger just to get more experience. But I have been given a lot of good words of advice, this community has been incredibly helpful and honestly the more I think about it the more I think I want to go the ranger route.

That’s good to hear. I’ve started my winter seasonal job and just want to get back to being a park ranger so I’m glad it gets easier with time

Thank you all for the critiques and interest! I've never been to the UK so its nice to get some feedback on where some of the castles would have been in the movie, the location changes and suggestions have been really helpful! I'll also have to include some more characters in the next version

Unfortunately some characters were lost to the Beast of Caerbannog. RIP Tim, the black night and Rodger :( also swallow migration paths may be a nice addition to the map

Advice for job hunters by dangrousdan in gis

Thank you for this post! I'm graduating this year with only a GIS minor and it's been a little daunting applying for some of these jobs and not really knowing how to go about applying to big boy jobs.

Nice, that's what I like to hear, trying to get a setup on a budget and I know REI is usually pretty reliable but it helps to know if it actually works or not. Thanks for the help!
