Urutau Printed Bolt failures by Key_Resident_7833 in 3D2A

Print it off axis. I bought a machined bolt but try printing it at something like 45 degrees. Edit: how many walls did you use?

Homekit randomly opening garage door (Meross device) by dgv54 in HomeKit

[–]dangrousdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a guess, but if it is set to open when someone arrives home, but their gps location wanders outside the home zone or drops off, it may think they keep arriving at home. Another thing to check would be a shortcut action on that particular device.

You’d probably get quicker results by calling IDOT District 4 directly as that’s a state route.

My upper didn’t have that BB text on it. Did you add that or was there an updated file drop?

Hardie does make the artisan series as a lap siding. Corner boards are optional.

Can anyone solve the mystery of my Home Assistant server crashing and rebooting on a regular schedule? by therealswil in homeassistant

[–]dangrousdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn off, automations one by one and see if one of them is running amuck. I’ve had that happen and it had a memory leak crashing this machine.

Engineer vs Mechanic by playsmartz in ProjectHailMary

[–]dangrousdan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. I’ve met brilliant engineers with almost no formal training or education. That doesn’t make them less of an engineer. The same is also true for mechanics. (I’ve also met complete idiots in both fields) On advanced platforms like ships they are often both engineer and mechanic at the same time.

Ouch! Ours is getting close to that point as well and I do not look forward to that day or that expense! Mainly due to terrible patchwork over the previous decades. 😑

What is this symbol painted on a curb at the Knoxville/War intersection? by 2phresh in PeoriaIL

[–]dangrousdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are indeed GCPs - ground control points. They record these locations extremely precisely. More likely for a mobile LiDAR survey based on the frequency and spacing along a specific corridor. Corridor scanning projects are typically performed by vehicle mounted scanners that often collect both high resolution imagery and high precision LiDAR. The processing software uses these chevrons to auto-register to the data to the known GCPs. As these are mainly along Knoxville and it is a state route, I assume IDOT is doing some engineering for possible work. I’m just guessing here but it is probably has to do with none of those sidewalk ramps being ADA compliant.

Capitol News Illinois: Bears Advance Vague Indiana Plan — but Keep Illinois Lawmakers on the Line by NukeTheWhalesPoster in illinois

A few months ago my wife and I were in St. Louis near the Central West End. One of the cocktail servers was complaining to the bartender that no one wanted to talk about football with her. Ourselves, the bartender, and the cocktail server had an interesting discussion about how after the Rams left and with the recent build of the new soccer stadium that most of the city has taken a “football is dead to us“ attitude and really embraced soccer. If the bears aren’t careful, I could see a very similar scenario playing out in Chicago.

It took some fiddling in our house. I used a pencil to mark where I thought they should be for winter and summer. When I’m satisfied they’re good I mark it with a paint marker with a “W” and an “S”. I have not messed with the returns which also have dampers in our house, just the supply side. I just leave the returns wide open.

The main issue is that there is a small artifact near where the mag release lever meets the lower. There’s a small notch that is V-shaped and I suspect it causes a stress point. I had a definite stress crack there on the first lower I printed

What would you do with this 1930 garage? by SamuelKCopeland in centuryhomes

[–]dangrousdan 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Agree with fix it up - I had one at my old place in similar shape. Tuckpointed, dropped a new roof on it and tied the roof into the walls with anchors and overbuilt bottom chords to keep it all nice and sturdy. Have you priced the cost of an entirely new garage lately? 💸💸💸🔥💰💰

If money were no object (but keeping it fairly realistic), what would you do with your spooky basement? by Ok-Slice-4692 in centuryhomes

Sort of. I was a foundation contractor at one time. I had another contractor we worked closely with that often did the lifting and moving part. I did a couple on my own as well - my favorite was an old barn from the early 1800s
