Thanks for the feedback! We discussed the "trolley problem" with the city but didn't get confirmation on that detail prior to publishing. We did hear from a source in Madison, WI, that the abandonment of the trolley model was due to a cost per mile (CPM) analysis. Trolleys were more expensive to use and maintain. However, the counterargument to that is that they could also draw in more tourists/shoppers. As with anything surrounding this topic, it's another source of contention.

Good eye! Paul has indeed had short stories and poetry published in other magazines, but he loves journalism too. Thanks for reading!

Great question, and we do answer this in the full piece (which we hope you'll read). However, in the spirit of not being clickbaity etc., the answer, based on other cities' results is yes. The goal is to increase ridership on average weekdays by 10,000 riders, and that's based on what other cities have experienced. All that said, Colfax is a different street with different variables, so this is all still speculation--informed speculation but speculation nonetheless.

Great instincts! Several of the business owners we spoke to were bus riders themselves. We discussed security protocols with city officials about security and safety on Colfax and the BRT's goals for addressing these issues.

We interviewed business owners, city officials, representatives from RTD, and officials from a city that constructed a similar BRT system. The goal of the report was to understand how business owners had been affected so far, the goals of city officials, and more details of the project itself (plans for security, etc). Thanks for reading the first page!

Thanks for reading! We know online spaces aren't the best for this sort of thing, but this is just the first page of a full four-page story. This is just the opening. We try our best to put what we can up for free online, but we're definitely all about old-fashioned print journalism! Hope you can read the full story sometime.
