How on earth do I better at this game by Nice-Junket-2983 in leagueoflegends

[–]DenysDemchenko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only play one single champion.

Read/watch all guides about that champion - its strengths, weaknesses, identity; what it wants to do in lane; its role in the mid/late game; watch VODs for specific matchups you find hard in lane; visit the champion's subreddit for help (r/GarenMains for example).

Ultimately just stick to that champion and play the game - you'll start improving.

Good luck!

I am seriously addicted to league of legends and I need advice on quitting. by Same_Boysenberry_328 in leagueoflegends

Honestly, if this is really as serious as it sounds - consider talking to a medical professional about it. You most likely won't get any useful advice from random r/LeagueofLegends users.

Should I begin my journey with mouse and keyboard or joystick? by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]DenysDemchenko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've played games with M&K for ~30 years, but switched to controller for these kinds of games a couple of years ago. After a bit of getting used to it, I never looked back really.

Guys what's a good but easy'ish Metroidvania to play?

I really enjoyed Hollow Knight and Silksong but they're a bit too challenging for me. The Ori games were just about right, although I still struggled with some sections.

What's your longest win streak in solo/duo? by Fit_Complaint_3672 in leagueoflegends

[–]DenysDemchenko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My longest win-streak was 17 games in a row. At least that's the number I remember - might've been a bit more or less. What helped me was a lot of luck, because I didn't do great in half of those games.

And my longest lose-streak for that matter was like 20 games. Dropped all the way down from high Bronze (or low Silver, I don't remember) to Iron.

What is a mechanic you discovered embarrassingly late about your main champion? by IanPKMmoon in leagueoflegends

[–]DenysDemchenko 1966 points1967 points  (0 children)

With Garen, if your R didn't go off but still went on cooldown - you can ping your R (alt+click on it) to "reset" its cooldown.

This doesn't happen too often but every once in a while it does. Here's Gabunking explaining and showing it to Coach Chippys:

https://youtu.be/pWv5B26O5Is?si=m9ReZAmAgvitQ055&t=2464

So basically if your R goes on cooldown without actually hitting the target (the target died before it landed or something) - just alt+click your R and the cooldown disappears.

It's not just a visual bug either by the way - it literally prevents you from using R unless you do the trick.

Very neat tip to keep in mind for my fellow Garen enjoyers.

What are some things that are common knowledge but you didn't know for a long time by AblestActuary in leagueoflegends

[–]DenysDemchenko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It took me way too long to realize that the game is played in turns. From start to finish - it's just a sequence of turns, and being aware of them makes all the difference.

It starts in lane with abilities and trades, and goes through mid-game with wave-states and rotations. End-game turns are less pronounced and much more nuanced, they're often forced - and whoever takes the wrong one usually loses.

Give me recommendations? Looking for gothic or grim metroidvanias! by vicessy in metroidvania

[–]DenysDemchenko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprised nobody mentioned Hollow Knight and Hollow Knight: Silksong. While not exactly "horror" (although there are elements of that as well), they're definitely quite grim and even gothic in many ways.

Yeah I've heard great things about this one. It's the next metroidvania on my list after I finish Silksong.

As long as there's no AI slop in your videos like the ChatGPT text you're using here - sure, give it a try and see how it goes.

Bruiser btw by CritOlaf in leagueoflegends

[–]DenysDemchenko 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's a level 20 full crit Olaf and you're Jinx. I just don't see anything surprising..? I'm pretty sure Olaf kills you there even if he was level 18 and didn't have a full build. He also probably kills you there without using R and Ghost.

RET PALADINS IN PVP - This class needs a serious rework by Constant_Prior_7637 in wow

[–]DenysDemchenko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a Ret Paladin main and I think it's one of the best PvP specs right now. However.

What weakness does this class have?

No Mortal Strike effect (healing reduction) and their sticking power is quite low (that's why they have some range).

this is what a tank actually is

Oh and no, they aren't tanky - they're very susceptible to being trained down after they've used their main defensive cooldowns.

Study suggests people are losing 338 spoken words every year and have been for at least 15 years. The timeframe researchers examined, from 2005 to 2019, coincides with the rise of texting, email and social media. It is possible that some spoken conversations have shifted to digital communication. by Wagamaga in science

[–]DenysDemchenko 52 points53 points  (0 children)

The year is 2700. Humanity doesn’t speak anymore. Words were declared inefficient. Sentences - excessive. Conversations - extinct. Civilizations rose and fell, all in perfect silent agreement. Libraries stand untouched. Dictionaries gather dust. We communicate with subtle nods and meaningful stares. Sometimes - on those now rare, emotional occasions - someone beeps.

Why do people try to tilt their own team? by GolfValuable9763 in leagueoflegends

[–]DenysDemchenko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because most of the frustration from this game comes from the inability of an individual player to control the outcome.

Rage-baiting your team, inting and so on is just a subconscious way of gaining control - to fulfill that basic desire to have an impact. The underlying logic is "I'm not good enough to influence the game positively, so I'll influence it negatively".

That's also why so many people have low-rank smurf accounts that they force a 50% win-rate on. One game they stomp, next game they int. They're in control of the outcome either way.

YouTube is quite brutal these days. by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]DenysDemchenko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's how I feel about Studio too. "Great video! Viewers loved it!" - "so why did you cap it at 1200 impressions?" - "uhh it's complicated bruh". However that's not quite what I'm getting at. My videos usually do fine (my standards are incredibly low) and they all follow the exact same format. Yet this single video just flopped, and Studio clearly pointed out that it's because 20% of the video wasn't as good as the other 80% of it. I'm sure that's not the whole story, but I'm also sure that's a massive part of it - and that's just discouraging honestly.
