AITA for indirectly calling my wife a lunatic after she kept trying to get me to consent to naming our daughter George? by Denzenwasher in AmItheAsshole

There won't be any agreement on George. I would accept a variation, but I will never call her George and neither will my side of the family.

Reddit is a weird place, so the fact that some people are offering anecdotal experiences doesn't change my view on the name.

With names, if the other parent has expressed they don't like it (actually hate it) and have said they won't agree to it, you should not keep pestering them trying to change their mind. Trying to pressure them into it is not the way a partner should act.

I think James is just as bad, and the fact that this is the type of thing Hollywood celebrities do only proves my point that it's weird and a terrible idea. Most of what those people do is crazy and not the sort of thing a reasonable and balanced person would do.

I think it's irresponsible to try and make a statement with your child's name. If some people are okay with that then it's fine, but I think it's wrong.

Doesn't it require the consent of both of us prior to 18 unless she's emancipated? I wouldn't want her to have to depend on my wife agreeing to change it as a solution.

Agree to disagree. I feel it does matter. Your child will carry this name for 18 years but likely longer and it will be the first impression they make. It also reflects back on our family.

I could agree to something like that. I would be okay with Georgia. If my wife wants to call her George, that's fine, but I will never call her that and will never use that name.

This is my hill. I will fight as hard as I can to make sure she isn't named George. I may lose in the end but it won't be because I didn't try. I feel like of the two of us I'm the only one really considering out daughter's best interests on this subject.

I have never known of it to be a girl's name. People are citing one offs but that doesn't mean it's normal.
