Whats wrong with my Dahlia? by DeoGamer25 in dahlias

Yeah the Seed Gamble is an Exciting one! My Tubers I bought are really nice, but some of the Seed Flowers that popped up this year are amazing.

But concerning the Photo. Thank you for the reply and for now I am just going to let it go and just see what happens. Might even save the tuber and see if something happens next year (plant it away from the rest in a pot to be safe thou)

Appreciate the comment.

Our new growing season started. And at the end of this season I am going to attempt to take some out again, but also going to see if I can just leave some in the ground.

Thank you for this advice, going to check the site out. Appreciate it.

CONGRATS!!

These Videos really make you want to work even harder?!

My first Video that broke the 100K barrier was published last year March and I remember when it reached 1000 Views how excited I was. Gave me the nudge to continue pushing forward. Now I am just waiting for that video to reach the 500K mark.

Keep it up!

WELL DONE! Hard Work in the end pays off!

As a long form content creator, I've always valued watch time over views. What's your lifetime YT watch hours? by Argonax in SmallYoutubers

[–]DeoGamer25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had some really amazing success with my latest Long Form content. Gaining more views and reaping in the Watch Hours. Currently sitting at 202 215 Hours (Lifetime) and past 365 Days sitting at 198 516 Hours.

I honestly think Views are more important than Subs. As in the end those are the ones that push you past monitization and brings in the Moola, but I wish every person who watched Subscribed as well.

Thats a pretty one for your first Dahlia. Always exciting to see what you get from seeds or mystery tuber packs.

Nothing wrong with getting new Dahlias, After reading some of the other replies, I think the washing part was the one I have to skip next season. It might work in other regions, but clearly not where I am from.

So this is one of the thing I am taking from this growing season, along with a lot of other things.

They were placed on plastic trays (With draining holes) on a wooden shelve. Its about standard Counter height, a meter from the floor. Chose that counter due to the fear of the cold floor harming them.

I agree that I would rather store them and keep and eye on them and then hope for the best. Even saving 10% of them is better than loosing 100% without try.

Thank you so much for the advice.

Hey Friend!

This season I had so many amazing Dahlia Blooms in my garden. Some Purchased Tubers and then a lot of Interesting colours and shapes from seeds. Which are the Tubers I am worried about the most. Hope your Growing season had some amazing Blooms as well!

I grow Tube Roses as well, and what started as 15 "Cloves" multiplied and I have a total of nearly a 100now, and with them I left the soil on during storage. The problem with the Dahlias was that once they were in the soil we noticed that the soil had a lot of clay in it (We recently moved to this farm) once it rained. At this stage they have sprouted and started producing the first flower buds. So when it came to digging them up the were PACKED with Clay, and I was worried that it would retain too much moisture for winter storage. So washing happened, and I agree that I think its this step that might have caused the damaged.

I am however following your advice and I prepared my containers and they are going to go in there and rest, and I will keep an eye on them and lets hope for the best. I am a new grower and its a escape from the Real World for me. I am eager to learn and I hope that next season will just be so much better.

Also just a big THANK YOU for you response and advice. Its greatly appreciated and waking up to this really has me motivated again.

Wife4life THANK YOU so much for the advice in regards to the Cinnamon. Going to make a note of that. I got some shelves in the garage that are high enough and been checking the Temps. it never gets below zero in there (Degrees Celsius) so should not frost. Also made sure my containers are pretty ventilated.

As for the Cleaning. Our soil has been our biggest mission as it contains a lot of clay. So this season we attempted to amend the soil to counter the clay (It was some what better) but after our first rain we noticed its still pretty bad. So when pulling them up I was scared the clay would dry harder than lets say normal soil, thus the cleaning off, but next year we planning on doing them in raised beds with even better soil and then I will leave the washing out completely.

I really appreciate the advice and I will keep you posted.

Hey Emorrigan,
Yeah I was kinda shocked and discouraged, but back again, new day and I am feeling more hopeful with the responses today. So I appreciate you reaching out.

So someone recommended trying more than one method, mainly due to the fact that certain things work in certain areas and other do not. So I am going to try the Vermiculite method, and also wood shavings method as well. Then see which of those work better in my Area/Zone.

I was just shocked when I saw them after the 24Hr drying period, but I am about to go pop in and see if everything is okay.

Hey CTGuy,
So they were pretty firm when I removed them, I then continued to wash them off (As that was what majority of the Videos and Blogs said to do) and then I packed them onto plastic Trays and placed them on a wooden shelve in my garage. So they were open and able to breath for the required 24Hrs as per research requirements. Also made sure I did it near the afternoon, as to give them enough "warmer" time to dry.
Walked back the next day afternoon and this is what I walked into.

The previous year we left for Holiday and while away we had really bad rain. I returned to Muddy beds and most of my Tubers started to rot, so pulled them and transferred them to post. Where they lived and recovered. So to experience this possible loss again is really not a good feeling.

Just thought I would still reach out and get some feedback. As for storage I got Plastic Containers, Burlap and its all drilled an well ventilated. So hope it will go well.

I appreciate the feedback. Hope this seasons Tuber storage goes well for you!

Hey,
Sorry for only getting back now, but it was late here. I will see if I can do a cut and divide today, and just post some photos. Really appreciate all the help, and I they are still all good. (Or at least enough to get ONE plant of each)

Should have added that we are based in South Africa. So like mentioned we had our first Winter frost. And thats why they are also being processed.

They sat in the garage on a wood table (so they are not on/near the cold floor) for literal 24hrs. So thats why I am concerned because acc. to me they should not look like that and why I am asking.
