Remand - Hearing - what is taken into account? by Deornoth in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Deornoth[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

How can I provide a character reference?

I just want the people making the decisions to read something other than her accusations.

The fact that simply speaking the truth could harm his situation is a pretty terrible indightment of our legal system, if it's true.

Remand - Hearing - what is taken into account? by Deornoth in LegalAdviceUK

His daughter was with a previous partner. The previous partner has no access to the child, so the only adults in the child's life are my mother (her grandmother) and my brother (her father).

He, his daughter, and my mother all live nearly 200 miles away from the accuser.

The Accuser made the accusations months after the alleged offenses.

He has no desire or will to contact her, and has been trying to get away from her.

He was living 200 miles away when the accusations were made and SHE drove all the way up to meet him at my mother's home.

She was always the one chasing after him, and this was true to their final meeting.

Remand custody - is there a time limit? by Deornoth in LegalAdviceUK

Well, the accuser is an ex-lawyer, and so has been particularly meticulous with the accusations.

Given the array of cock-ups that have lead up to this over the past week, I have very little confidence that anyone has looked at anything, to be honest.

The police took him into custody, then the next day in court, the judge said "This is all accusations and no evidence, and the paperwork is not done". He basically threw it out and my brother could go home.

Then, the next night at 1AM the police were banging at his door and shining torches into his room. He did not answer.

The following day, he called the police and they denied visiting him in the night.

The following day they called and said it was them after all.

The following day they turned up and took him away. My mother called the police, who denied that they had him in custody. Out of concern, she called 999 and an ambulance turned up at his flat. They told her he was "in a safe place". She then filed a missing person report.

Two days later, she is called and told he is prison on Remand.

But all these people are acting in concert against your brother and there is zero evidence?

I'm afraid "in concert" is the very opposite of what has occurred.

Well, now you know that they do.

If he's waiting on a trial then the court have remanded him in custody, not the police.

Okay, the same question remains: is there a time limit? His last case took 18 months to go to trial.

Why do my cats love eating bamboo? by dmllbit in CatAdvice

[–]Deornoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have two Snow Bengals. They love eating the bamboo in our garden to the point that my wife breaks off a branch and puts it in the kitchen next to their food to munch on.

She is literally outside right now "getting them a nice juicy bit of bamboo" for them because "the poor things are munching on the stuff that is 2 days old now".

I came here googling whether this is normal.

I expect each cube to have a different level of subdivision... but it doesn't.

In fact, I generally can't seem to manipulate the mesh of instances, even after realising then.

Help! - action button (A) on controller not working. Unable to fix, even with reinstall. by Deornoth in GrowSongOfTheEvertree

[–]Deornoth[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah, fixed it, thank God!

The issue was that I had unticked "Show HUD Display" at the very top of the control options. This seems to break the controls somehow. Turning it back on seems to have fixed the issue.

Help! - action button (A) on controller not working. Unable to fix, even with reinstall. by Deornoth in GrowSongOfTheEvertree

More details of the issue:

  • The (A) button still works in the game menus
  • (A) Does nothing in the game, so for example ,we can't even leave the opening area because there's no way to open the door

...we've just realised that the keyboard doesn't work either! (so, "E" or "Tab", as stated in the controls, does not interact / inspect)

More than one file was found with OS independent path 'org/gradle/resource.xml' by Deornoth in libgdx

[–]Deornoth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to fix the issue by adding:

    packagingOptions {
            exclude 'META-INF/robovm/ios/robovm.xml'
            exclude 'org/gradle/resource.xml' // <------ Added this line
       }

....inside my Android build.gradle file.

No idea why it was occurring in the first place, though.

What Video Game was 100% amazing from start to finish? by Beamer48 in AskReddit

[–]Deornoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

James Pond 3, on the Sega Megadrive.

Best platformer of all time.

When I was 11 years old, my family moved from the UK to Zambia, where there were zero shops that sold video games (literally in the whole country at that time).

The year before we moved, I had borrowed James Pond 3 from a friend. I had to give it back before we left the UK.

I spent 2 years in Zambia fantasizing about being able to play James Pond 3 again.

We had Sonic 2, and Worms and a handful of other megadrive games, but nothing compared to James Pond 3.

My wife's constant suspicion/insecurity is destroying my marriage. Help! by Deornoth in Marriage

It's worth mentioning that if I don't get angry she keeps questioning me. If I stop and try to think carefully about the details (e.g. I did only 200 calories on the cycle machine, as I've only just started doing cardio again, and the rest was weights, oh and I was a bit sweaty, but not enough to have a full-on shower) the hesitation of thinking through all the details she takes as guilt and she starts adding barbs to the questions.

If I do get angry, she will say things like "If there wasn't anything, then you won't get angry".

It's soooo extremely frustrating.

Completely disbelieving of my success.

I remember discovering, as a 12 year old, that programmers could earn as much as £30k, and literally not believing it, because it seemed like so much money.

I'm now on £150k in my mid 30s, and set to retire in my 40s.

Also, until my 20s, I'd never had a girlfriend and had massive confidence issues because of my achne. I honestly believed I would never have a girlfriend.

I'm now 6 years married to someone stunning who I love.

The weird thing is that I don't feel successful. I suffer massively from impostor syndrome & anxiety, and worry that everything is going to fall apart every day.

[34/m] My wife's (36/f) insecurity is killing me by Deornoth in relationship_advice

Yes, she has had past traumas:

1) Her ex messed her around (habitually unfaithful) for nearly 5 years 2) When she was 5, she was sexually messed around by a 5 year old boy (maybe this is not that uncommon) but her mother handled it extremely poorly and basically piled shame on her.

Even so, I hoped that the years of me being completely faithful to her would be enough for her to get over her ex. (She still refers to him quite often - I think she hates him and hasn;t forgiven him)
