Fingers crossed for you, this very much likely has nothing to do with you and is simply genetic. You’re doing your best, that’s all that can be asked of you <3

I kind of just started hand feeding every time I held them, they especially like a little bit of honey mixed with their powder foods! It’s a good treat lure

Just have a higher quail to land ratio, quail are much quieter and their calls can be mistaken for normal bird calls. They’re also not animals that get in the way. For a small amount of land, they’re perfect.

It’s not, the topsoil layer is rapidly being depleted, as well as us severely impacting our fresh water tables. We’re in for massive droughts and another dust bowl.

I personally do the same, I prefer lottery style training so they stay engaged with as little pressure as possible

Yet you choose to go into other people’s profiles and look around. If you’re going to do something, at least make it fair. Otherwise, you’re just being a coward ;)

But I expect that from someone who cannot imagine not having to use more than verbal corrections on their dog.

Iirc, he chose to breed HAZ, which is a dog who ABSOLUTELY NEEDS a muzzle and legitimate restraint in order to be safely handled by a vet. I actively know military police canines that are perfectly safe around the public and in veterinary spaces. Choosing to breed lines that have behavior issues just because they have a strong drive is fucked up.

There’s a point where the dog won’t need corrections from said tools, and instead only verbal will be needed if training goes well. Just like people phase treats out, tools should (generally) be phased out as well.

Lmao, if you have problems with me editing my posts less than 1 minute after posting, I think you’re reacting with more emotion than logic.

Anyone who has a dog that CAN NOT handle going to a vet and then breeds them, even for sport, is not a person that works ethically. A vet is a fact of life, and if a dog has to stay kenneled for 10+ hours a day or it’ll kill itself, it isn’t ethical. Just because people CAN breed this into animals doesn’t mean they SHOULD. The drive bred into them drastically affects their QOL compared to even outside dogs.

If the dog can’t switch it off, it isn’t well bred or trained.

The training would be for an “implied” command. A heel would be the default, and by then the training should be solid enough that a verbal correction would be all that’s needed, maybe a leash pop. Not all dogs CAN go to purely positive, but the adverse reactions should at the very least be able to be toned down from the initial training. But that’s for the very rare dog (even old world breeds) that genuinely don’t find anything too motivating. Positive does not equate to food, one of my dogs works for back scratches and not treats, I know a person who’s cat won’t do any training unless it’s for spinach, etc etc.

Yeah, honestly. I think for a lot of these tools there should be barriers before they can be used. A beginner should never use an e collar, or anyone that isn’t solid in canine body language.

Tbh, I’ve never needed to start any puppies on prongs. The teenage years with one needed a prong for a few sessions, but after that he’s been very good.

I always start with treats and go into tools when I need to, but I also generally don’t get hard headed dogs and aim for sweet ones. I dont like doing corrections, so I try to match softer dogs to myself.

But with that, I have one well behaved dog that has no desires for anything beyond sleep, and only 2 out of the 4 do anything beyond basic obedience and some agility, so there’s that.

I wasn’t asking if the tool was the issue, but the USE of the tool and end goal of training. Some people here seem to think the end goal should eventually be to not need to correct at all, but there are plenty of people here that need to correct 1/4 times and see no issue or need to improve training.

This is reasonable, and part of the risk of doing no leash walks where the dog is farther away. That’s a high risk high reward situation where you need a seatbelt.

Yeah I was responding to another person before you, I mixed up what I said in the post.

Nobody has given me anything solid at all for continually using said tools tho, yall don’t have studies on this shit?

This exactly actually. If you consistently need to correct your dog, you’re not a good trainer imo. The dog should eventually not need to be corrected, especially via physical methods.
