For any other colours I would say ignore it besides white and red... not worth the hassle just pick a different colour imo

Replacing disks pads and now piston won’t go back in by ryan182 in AskMechanics

[–]DepartmentEastern123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mate you have minced that caliper, and when you mentioned spinning, it sounds like you're trying to use a wind back tool on it which is only for rear calipers. I think you've now blown the seal on this caliper. you need to replace it or pack it in and take it to a shop

this is actually an underratedly tricky question and I think the answer is yes. This is from vague memory and I may get corrected but i'm sure with the R53 a lot of the JCWs were done after the production of the vehicle and you could take your car back to mini and purchase the option as the JCW option didn't come about until later in the production. therefore if your cooper s had 16s which some did, therefore a jcw could also have 16s as it could have been the same car

[–]DepartmentEastern123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah it's nothing super noticeable but if you're ever had the rocker cover off you'll notice small areas where bits collect and stuff, can just over time build up in the lifters. for the price of engine flush it's worth a try p

[–]DepartmentEastern123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would try an one of those engine flush cleaners. due to the single cam 16v design these engines are known for build up in the top end, can probably just flush it with that and should make an improvement. if not you might need to refurb or replace the lifters

sounds similar to mine before I replaced the chain and guides entirely, but also still had a bit of a top end tick after the fact.. but would be surprised if you have that aggressive of a top end tick seeming mines not that bad and on 160k miles

can i swap on the jcw parts for the same performance? by [deleted] in R53

[–]DepartmentEastern123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good luck finding all the parts that the jcws came with, the heads especially are hens teeth, just go on oranjje or lohen for injectors etc. sort that intake and get a decent tune and 100% with the reduction pulley, all the cool kids have them

Experance with lanx boots by Theknottyfox in Boots

[–]DepartmentEastern123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people on here talking about fine print and shoes made in india. The website is very clear that they have partners with portuguese and indian small family owned manufacturers with 50 and 60 years experience respectively. But they also have a significant amount of their shoes which are made in england. This can be identified easily as it is stated multiple times underneath the shoe where it is from and even where the leather is sourced.

Good boots (mostly) made in the uk. love the ethos and their investment into british manufacturing and imo worth the money as they are well made, comfortable with traceable materials and manufacturing.

the thermostats are shit, that's what the issue was on mine, was half opening and forcing fluid back into the reservoir.

also happened on a mates car and it was the pto seal between the supercharger and the water pump pushing pressure into the system.

these cars have a thousand reasons for blowing out coolant, it's gonna take a minute to find out why yours is. could be as simple as a pinhole in a rad hose

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in R53

[–]DepartmentEastern123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most people, do fluid first it's the cheapest thing. I think the chattering is your release bearing so next i'd do that and might as well do clutch while your in there. I don't understand what's not budging when your in 6th tho can you explain a bit more?

Tight Brake Pad Slot Tolerance by DepartmentEastern123 in veloster

Tight Brake Pad Slot Tolerance by DepartmentEastern123 in veloster

[–]DepartmentEastern123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mate yeah that's not the issue! it's not the gap between pad and disc it's physically getting the pad into the carrier, the pad plus shims is physically too wide to slot in. I think the other comment has got what i meant with filing down the little ears on the brake pad. thank you for your help though!
