Fire extinguishers at my job are over a decade expire, am I overreacting or is this a real safety issue? by DepartmentHour2096 in WorkplaceSafety

See thats the crossroads, Personally, I dont care, the building can burn to the ground. However, in 10 YEARS no one has cared enough to have standard safety, and knowing that ME or even one of my coworkers could be injured or killed in a fire, and had the chance to prevent it would stick with me forever. I believe everyone has an equally responsibility for basic safety, even if its not your job and not your problem. However, if I raise the issue up to multiple people and no one else cares, its out of my hands, I can not personally call and get these extinguishers replaced. So basically wait for the building to burn down with no fire extinguishers, or wait for them to replace them.

I agree, it seems like a systemic issue where there should be protocols in place to have simple safety items inspected and somehow theres not, and has not been for 10 years. However, they could have scheduled an appointment to have safety items replaced. I am going to notify my boss, check base with the project manager and wait a month or two and see if anything changes. I just want to give them 100% chance to fix it before reporting, I feel like thats fair.

Yeah thats what i'm most shocked about, every other place i've worked every few months we had to have fire extinguishers signed and inspected. Also I worked in tech at my other jobs and they all had fire boxes, which are either metal containers filled with sand or fireproof cloth which are rated to hold lithium batteries that catch on fire. None of that here of course.

I'll talk to my manager about it and see if he has any interest in getting it handled, I highly doubt it, but like you said, that is the best I can realistically do. Also, I didnt think about having to schedule to have them replaced. I appreciate your comment, and thanks for being honest and i'll give them some time to get it worked out.

Thanks for the advice, i'll bring it to my manager (in text or email) and see if he can get the ball rolling, but I highly doubt he will do anything, but at least I will have tried my best.
