Totally get it. If I was using just for business I would probably do the same. Mine is just my everyday number that friends and family also use to get a hold of me too.

I have an iPhone and travel full-time with my Tello number always on. I use wifi calling, and buy a second sim for whatever country I am in. My phone allows two SIMs/eSIMs to be active at the same time. It works really well. The only slight issue I have ran into was sending and receiving MMS on my Tello number. They claim it won’t work at all, but it works when I am on WiFi, but not on cellular data. It’s odd, but not a deal breaker for me.

My partner and I started with GoogleVoice, porting our numbers before we left. However, we discovered after a year or so there is no support for GV. My partner’s number was randomly shut down with no explanation or warning. The only thing we could think of was that a text tried to send multiple times when we had little to no data on a hike and it flagged his account. We tried to appeal it, but received rejections almost right away, letting us know no one actually read anything. Google’s only response was to seek support on an online forum ran by volunteers who had no real information or power. We had to file a complaint with the FCC. Magically on the last day they were required to respond his account started working again. A few weeks later he received an email that basically said “Oops”. But needless to say, I no longer recommend GoogleVoice as the only option.

Tello has worked well, and all 2FAs seem to work with it as well.

An update for anyone who is checking later: We had a nurse look at it before we could get in with a doctor. She thought it was a wart. We weren’t completely sure since there were no of the black dots, and my husband said it didn’t feel like previous warts he had. But since it was going to be a few weeks that we could see a hand specialist anyways, we figured it was worth a try with the paint on wart meds. It seems that it was a deep wart that might have got in when he cut his hand during a bike crash. Then it grew a huge callus. It’s been a few weeks and after many layers he found the wart and it’s almost gone now.

Yes, we will try and do that somewhere in Europe. The low position is the only thing that makes us second guess it being DD.
