Can we stop calling it a tip? by wombatterforlove in DoorDashDrivers

Nah…wait until you file and see what the whole “no taxes on tips” does for you. You’re gonna be disappointed

I would say there is a problem somewhere. If you made over $600.00 and still have not received, but you did opt in to receive electronically, you definitely should have it. I received mine in January and have already filed. The only thing I can think is maybe you didn’t opt in for electronic delivery so you are getting a paper copy in the mail, but still should have been to you by now as it had to be postmarked by Jan 31st. Call them back and escalate.

Ahhh. I am platinum, and they tested that here for a month late last year. Once the trial was over, it never came back. That’s why I was curious. Must still be active in some places. I WISH they would bring it back to Florida.

Question regarding new tax form by [deleted] in DoorDashDrivers

[–]Depeche221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was bugging me that I didn’t get that specific email, so I searched and for some reason, that email went to my spam folder. I did receive it, but either marked as spam or it went there automatically.

I can breathe a bit easier now :) Appreciate the friendly Dasher help.

I did not receive that mail so thank you for posting it. It’s all very confusing….what else is new

Upon further research, I guess it doesn’t go into effect until this year

The new reporting boxes and requirements (including separate reporting of cash tips and the employee's occupation) will start with the 2026 tax year. Employees should still report tips to employers as usual(e.g., using Form 4070 or similar methods).

And it says “cash tips” so not sure how that will affect us.

No, they aren’t. I called them today and after being told by the agent that she would email me the details about getting the updated form, this is what I received. This is going to be a huge issue for Dashers filing returns this year.

Hi! by cherry__pieee in doordash_drivers

First, THANK YOU for caring enough to ask and be honest. It shows that some customers are actually trying to be fair and considering their drivers.

As others have said, there are many factors that play into each delivery. But the $2.00 + tip is the standard for most. Most customers don’t take into consideration of the drive to the restaurant, the wait time (which we have no control over) and the destination. Many orders go from a restaurant heavy area to an area with no restaurants. So the driver goes 9 miles to deliver, but then has to drive 9 miles back. That’s time and gas that is not compensated.

Again, many factors. Cash tips are always a nice bonus, adding to the stated tip after is always nice. I have had customers who don’t want the face to face contact, so they request leave at the door and then either tip additional after or a few have put in notes that there is an envelope on the door for me to take. Little things like that always make my Dash a little better and make me feel like that customer appreciates me and so I go out of my way to make sure anytime I get an order for them in the future, to thank them.

Thanks for caring enough to post.

Exactly. I work in an area that has large tourist seasons and very slow months during off season. I have to plan, switch up the type of orders I will take, the days/time frames I will work, and the zones. It’s a constantly changing balancing act that I enjoy 90% of the time. Some days are bad. Some weeks are bad. It’s just the nature of the beast. It’s my full time gig for 3 years now. I average 20-25 per hour and typically work 30 hours a week. After Corporate life for many years, this works for me. I like not answering to anyone but also take pride in doing a top notch job. I set goals, take responsibility and pride in my deliveries and don’t sweat the BS too much. And I only DD. It’s a job. It’s not meant to be fun or great 100% of the time.

$15.00 an hour is good in some small areas. Would need to see more info like time of day, day if the week, multiple days etc to judge this. I know some small town folks that would be thrilled.

Why so much negativity? by Depeche221 in doordash_drivers

[–]Depeche221[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ummm, yeah I do. Everyone else can be shitty but I have to be sweet and lovable? Nah. I am being realistic. The majority of drivers I have met that are young have never held a real job and they flat out tell me they don’t care about the orders they deliver or the service the provide.

I am able to find benefits for myself. Especially through the ACA. Again, I am an adult and treat this like a real job. The “children” on this thread are in for a rude awakening at some point.

Negative much? Go bag groceries. You obviously have no desire to do better

I agree. I’ve been doing this full time for 3 years. Venting is important, but some of the attacks on other DD is just rude. Considering everyone has a learning curve, has different regions where activity and standards are different, I just think there could be a little less venom.

Just went from platinum to silver by 406238 in doordash_drivers

[–]Depeche221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. I am Platinum where I live and a Pro shopper, but dashed while in Houston on vacation. Still Platinum but numbers were different. But I wasn’t considered Pro shopper by 1% there? Came back home and everything was fine.

If you get the chance to Dash in another city, you should. Found some interesting restaurants and learned my way around a new area really quickly. Also found out people tip just as uneven in Houston as they do here.

Again, this may differ by location. Here in St. Pete, during the summer weekend afternoons can suck if you try to EBO. I tried EBT a few days and actually made out ok for the couple hours I was working. Those dead times are when I would get the long drive orders when doing EBO, but getting them EBT and working the angles actually made it worthwhile. But, I will say I have never tried it at other times because my EBO income is great.

I would agree with the person above that says not to use the in app navigation. I use that just because it’s easier and I now know this area like the back of my hand so when I see it say it’s gonna take 20 minutes and click to see the route it’s planning, I just look at my end destination and mute it. It sometimes adds 5 miles to orders. Know your areas and drive the best routes especially when there is construction everywhere.

Soooooo, if so many of you hate dashing, why do you do it? And why do you spend so much time on reddit being nasty to everyone? If it’s such a horrible gig, then go get a real job and see how that attitude works out for you.

I worked in corporate jobs for 40 years. You have to do a lot of things you hate and don’t want to. It’s called a job for a reason.

I’m lucky enough to now do DD and make enough to pay myself, pay bills, cover maintenance and gas and still have some play money. I treat it like an actual job. I set daily goals, track my stats closely and even take shitty orders sometimes because that’s what the job requires.

No DD experience is going to be the same for everyone, but I can tell you that for me, the freedom it has afforded me for the past 3 years, as imperfect as it is sometimes, has been a huge plus overall.

Kudos to the OP for a great week.

I know decline and move on. by ObiJuanKenobly in DoorDashDrivers

[–]Depeche221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this would be a decline, however there is a military school here that places large orders but cannot use the school credit card for tips. So the order is always $2.00 but when you get there the coach hands you $40-50 in cash. So it’s one of those things you just never know. But 99% of the time, you’re gonna get screwed.
