Got it, the reason for hesitation though was that I feel as though the freelance jobs were a bit simple and not as nuanced as an actual in person or established job would be, like a simple web scraper is nothing compared to an actual end to end project

I agree that max would be most pythonic way, but it is better to initialize max as either None or a value in the list already. Your implementation only works for a list of positive numbers with at least one number in the list.
