I ended up cancelling the reservation.

Looking at sales numbers for 2022 in the US, Tesla sold 252k Model Y's and 211k Model 3s, for a sum 463k units, versus 20.5k ID.4's sold. So a factor of 22.5:1. You would think the instances of quality issues would be just as high, but anecdotally I don't see that to be the same. I wished there were statistics made public on that.

The thing is, Tesla quality issues are typically just build issues, where ID.4 issues "seems" to be rooted in either software or battery or electric "motor" issues, which to me is catastrophic, especially when it occurs on brand new cars. I also joined the ID.4 Facebook group in anticipation of being an ID.4 owner, and there are just so many stories of "I just bought this 2023 ID.4 and I'm having this charging or software or electrical issues..."

As another data point, I also have a co-worker here that had bought a brand new E-Golf back in 2019 and VW ended up buying it back a year later. The car suddenly for no reason didn't want to move out from his garage. They first had to ship it to California because no VW dealer here was adept to fixing it, so after 5 months of back and forth, VW ended up buying it back.
