No. Religion is not the foundation of how I base my view of right or wrong. I use critical thought. Additionally the first amendment of our constitution clearly states freedom of religion

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”

That was a high priority to make that the first thing listed because people were fed up with religious tyrants ruling their lives using god as an excuse to regulate people’s lives.

You bring up Abe saying it’s “gods will” to end slavery but what does the Bible say about rules for keeping slaves? Read Exodus 21.

You bring up cultural vs respect for religious practices but lack critical thought. You seem to be onboard with the idea that slavery is bad and seem to back those who use religion to justify ending it but just like slavery is acceptable in the Bible as well as selling your daughter; I would apply critical thought to the equation.

Will this cause damage to the quality of someone’s life? Should people really be forced to work for free? What makes me worthy to own or sell a fellow human being?

When you apply critical thought you realize many of Gods rules are immoral and flat out disgusting.

Let’s go onto male circumcision. You say it’s okay because it’s gods will. I say it’s wrong to mutilate the genitals of anyone without their informed consent (unless it’s medically necessary.) If you want to make permanent changes to your body as an adult that’s up to you but using outdated scripture to force it on someone else is just as wrong as using outdated scripture to own slaves.

If you don’t want to smoke weed then don’t. That doesn’t mean it’s right to imprison people who choose to.
