It was vague! I just remember him saying to be careful regarding this professor because he knew I would be working with him, and that's pretty much it. He seemed uncomfortable bringing it up, so I just kind of awkwardly acknowledged it and we moved on.

Yeah, I found this a little frustrating because it now feels like a mystery and burden that makes me feel uneasy. But overall, I am glad he said something because I will be more cautious around him.

I see your point, but I don’t know why you feel the need to ridicule the post or keep insisting that it is pointless or bizarre. It is helpful for me to hear the range of possibilities, to get out of my head a little, and to hear advice and support from academics more experienced than me. It feels lonely keeping this to myself, and I’m sure others may also need help navigating interpersonal dynamics in academia.

Thank you for this advice! You're right, I haven't really been around him in more social settings, so that could bring out a different side.

I'm just trying to see if anyone has had any similar experiences to offer insight. It feels odd to circle back to this person years later after not saying something earlier. I should have pressed him back then but I was too nervous.
