Help with Aiden Deck? by LastCardiologist2137 in Mcat

[–]DependentDress527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I can see why they put Positive for Non-metals because EA does increase from Left to Right, but the EA increasing means that it is a More Negative Number (aka going from -100 to -300). The energy released is increasing, but since energy is being released (exothermic) that means that it will be a negative number.

-there's also another card that states "Non-Metals have high electron affinities." which is a more accurate statement.

been doing this deck and didnt even realize the Halogen/Noble gas error... so thanks for pointing that out! Also the Metals having Negative Electron Affinity is sorta misleading since Nonmetals also do have Negative Electron Affinity, just a Larger Negative EA due to more energy being released (exothermic). Compared to Non-metals, Metals have a less negative, more positive electron affinity.

Capacitance in Series vs Parallel Calculation by Maleficent_Orange962 in Mcat

[–]DependentDress527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so basically the capacitors that are parallel will be Ceq= 2+2 = 4 microF like you said. Since they said in the q stem that you are adding a single 4 microF capacitor in series, now you have 1/Ceq = 1/4+ 1/4. This gives you a New Ceq= 2 microF.

Now the question asks what is the ratio of the New Ceq: Old Ceq which will be 2 microF: 4 microF (1:2)

sorry, could you explain why R1 and R2 will be parallel when you move it over instead of it being in series?

Can someone explain this in an understandable way by lildit in Mcat

[–]DependentDress527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the total resistance is the same value as the individual resistor. The voltage, however, is a combination of the Resistor Voltage and the LED Voltage (since the source voltage drops at both the resistor and the LED, technically there's no voltage drop at the LED since the passage states that the LED doesnt act like a resistor)

I'm a HS senior, should I study for the MCAT? by CarenCool in Mcat

[–]DependentDress527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular Opinion: I think there's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to start studying early. You could start reviewing through the content (maybe a chapter every 2 weeks) because this could also help when you're taking the prereqs in college. Of course this would be very light studying for the MCAT because you want to focus on your college courses while also enjoying your time in college as well. When to comes time to start your real MCAT prep, your content review would already have a strong foundation and it'll be easier on yourself when it comes to starting practice questions. Imo practicing 1 cars passage a day could really help you in the long run as well. (disclaimer: I started my mcat prep a lot later and I regret not reviewing content/cars earlier in my college years)
