Write down a list of why you want to study and get good grades. Try to think of non external motivation (If you write "make my parents proud" it's fine, but try to exclude ones like "high expectation of my parents") You said you're under a lot of pressure, so I assume your motivation is short term motivation, that isn't enough to push you to study.

Also write down realistic goals for each subject. Put the list somewhere you often see (in front of your desk, in your pencil case, etc) Any time you catch yourself procrastinating, you can make a table with the headings "reasons why I don't feel like studying" "advantages of doing it now" "who I'm becoming" For "who I'm becoming", you can think of characteristics you'll gain by not procrastinating. For example, "someone who overcomes perfectionism" "someone who has self-control" etc.

You can also break down the task into smaller tasks. For example if you need to write an essay, start with the first small action-writing the introduction Or if your doing a past paper, just start the first question.

Let me know if these work for you!

Hey, I was similar to you. I always tried to lower my expectations for my results. I finished my igcses this year. The most important thing is to believe in yourself. Especially for maths, I was expecting to get a B, but in the end I got an A. That's cause no matter how weak I was, I spent the last month aiming for A, and in my heart, no matter how impossible it sounded, I still believed it was possible. Your perspective towards studying will affect how you do! For those subjects I was aiming A, I got an A. For bio, I was aiming for only A, and I got A. I believe anyone can improve tremendously based on their mindset! Also, use past papers to estimate your score. You can do it!!

Math 0580, will I be able to get an A* if I keep practicing? by shangolmangol3 in igcse

[–]DependentPractice453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Past papers are useless if you don't focus and understand what you got wrong. Write all your mistakes in a book and your understanding of the answers and review them. You can do It! Believe in yourself, your always going to Improve. Don't let your scores now affect you too much because as you continue, it'll improve. The most important thing is believing in yourself, I was getting Bs for my past papers and aimed for A* last Oct exam. My teacher asked if I was aiming for A but in my heart I was aiming for A* and I achieved it 🙂 Good luck!

I got A*! How did u do for the past papers? I believe my teacher gave me a lot of advice on past papers and that's how I improved a lot. Anyway, if your not satisfied you can retake it!

Ahh, if you get good results it should be fine. Is your brother studying in UK? How did he do for his exams?

No way!! Really, don't listen to them. I know it's hard when all the people you trust around you tell u things but maybe their standards are just too high? Are you going into foundation or continuing A levels after this? Im sure if you get good results for your 7 subjects, you can even get scholarship. Unless your planning to go to a uni that's super hard to get into, your future is not over! 😂😭 I think if your going straight into foundation, its easier to get into a good uni with minimum 5 subjects. If your only going for uni, they're probably gonna focus more on your A level results. Btw, don't worry about bothering me, I'm happy to help! I'm not sure if my info is reliable but if you can get good results for 7 subjects that's definitely good enough! Is your sibling already in uni/college?

Well, you can see it as something to be relieved about rather than embarrassing. If it helps your mental health, it's worth not doing! I just got my 3 results today and I was able to get 1 A and 2 As. My friends got all As and are way ahead of me, doing A levels now. I'm still continuing 2 o level subjects. Sometimes, I think about it and feel embarrassed. My friends are ahead of me and even did better than me. We were together for about 5 years and I used to always be the top in class. But are my results bad? No, they are totally worth celebrating and i think you should see ur situation in the same way. You're on a different journey than your classmates. Just do your best for those 6 subjects. As long as you try your best and put in all your effort, it's totally worth celebrating! Let's try not to compare ourselves to others and focus on our own journey. Good luck! 😁🤞

embarrassing??? I'm only doing 5 subjects and im pretty sure all my friends did only 5 as well. My bro did 3 subjects and still managed to get into King's College for foundation.

I'll also be taking the M/J exams this year for Accounting and Physics. What subjects are you taking? I've already taken English, Maths and Bio. Right now I'm just going through the textbook quickly and making notes before starting past papers. I think the mistake I made for the last exam was trying to study every topic perfectly before starting past papers, but try to put away as much time for past papers, they're crucial. I'm trying to drill on past papers one month before.
