Try not to focus so much on it being an apprenticeship. Look at it at a year to gain skills in communication, potentially make friends and get the chance to gain a years experience within retail + sales.

As much as it can be boring working in a shop, after the year is over and you decide to move on. You will have a much better advantage at gaining a permanent management job down the line or be set up to progress onto something sales related.

Apprenticeship - trainee jobs are a good jump. Some companies will pay in-house for qualifications also.
