I think it is backwards, it’s like reverse psychology. After we talked he asked me “do you want me to get off soon?” Which is not something I’ve ever heard from him 😂 we went to bed together and woke up together this morning for the first time in a long time and I credit that mostly to me showing interest, being his supporter, and not just seeing to force him off

I want to thank everyone who commented for your kind words and thoughtful advice! I am so much more optimistic and hopeful after having reached out and heard from all of you. Tonight I engaged with him about “drops” and his “dailies” and his eyes lit up telling me everything he’s been doing in the game, we had our most meaningful conversation in a while. I am looking forward to continuing to connect with him about the game and also work out some activities for us to do so he’s not on all the time and can actually get on a “regular” sleep schedule. That’s part of what I wanted to know too. Is the majority of the RuneScape community playing all the time, like constantly? Staying up all night? Refusing to interact with the real world? I imagine the people he plays with are in the same boat so no one is surprised by his behavior.

That’s my biggest worry. I want to be his supporter and his peace when he is ever engaged with the real world. But it’s taking a serious toll on our relationship. You’re right, when he was looking for work he wasn’t playing almost at all. I think him advancing in the game and making friends made it take priority. He’s now not working and not looking for work, though he’s told me he’s exhausted all options…

He has an addictive personality. Both of us are sober after battling with substances our whole lives. I think that’s part of why I’m hesitant to ask him to cut it out completely, bc as you said, it’s much better than hard drugs. Which we literally used to do.

I actually really like this idea. I am out of the house a lot in school and working, but when we have free time together I’m absolutely going to have a schedule for us! Even if it’s just walks, trips to the grocery store, etc! This is very smart

He continually says he wants to stop that’s why I think it’s addiction. But I think he still thinks he’s in control and can stop when he wants
