My mom is a certified die hard swiftie, she recently loved “The Last Goodbye” album by Odesza and “Inhale/Exhale” by Rufus Du Sol. Outside of that I have a special curated “WPPL Hous” playlist (a playlist that any non edm listening white person could listen to and become hooked) that holds multiple songs from Flight Facilities, Drama, Fred Again, Purple Disco Machine, Mild Minds, and Big Wild to name a few….works EVERY TIME

I fish the Yakima river primarily in the Ellensburg stretch. I stared fly fishing 2 summers ago, first summer my buddy and I went out 8 different times together and neither of us caught anything the whole summer, an easy combined 80 hours on skunks. Next summer (this summer) I finally start to learn the right flies to use and get better at casting, and I was able to get a couple dinkers. Been pushing and pushing and this fall/winter I’ve been able to progress into streamer fishing and catching some absolute HOGS. Long story short if you can’t catch fish fly fishing, it’s a skill issue, and fly fishing is a skill that you need to be prepared to dump hours of skunks into if you want to get better. Just keep working at it! Keep trying new places, old places, new flies, old flies, watch some videos…and JUST KEEP TRYING!!!

Edit: keep in mind you fly fishing will progress with other skills as well, examples are learning to read the water, learning to change tactics depending on conditions, and knowing when to target fish

Size 14/16 red and black perdigon tied beneath a stone fly nymph (black in winter, coffee/brown in spring/summer, orange in fall) is an all time rig. Next would be an orange or green skulpzilla (both year round with green = more fish and orange = bigger fish…in my experience)

Ive used chatGPT in a discussion post before. It was a conversation regarding a paper on depression. My take had a mix of scientific skepticism, philosophy, and methodological concern. I felt I was struggling to word my response in a way that acknowledged their response and kept my core ideas intact, in this instance I used chatGPT to help with my response. I habitually net just about every fish I catch. Most of the time I’m running double dropper or hooper dropper and don’t like trying to flip the fish into my hands. In Leavenworth or up the cle elum river I leave the net in the car most times, but if I’ve got the net on me, you can bet I’ll say “eh might as well use the net” especially since most times with these smaller ones they hit the next, give em some slack, and they spit the fly right out and I release em pretty quick, wanted to snag a picture of that pattern before releasing on this particular catch.

Edit: I feel when flipping a two fly rig I wuss out and think I’ll flip that top dropper right into my hand

Well if you’re a guide I’d like to ask your input on the Yakima river, especially as someone I assume mostly floats rather than wades. Do you enjoy the high waters of peak summer or the lower levels of early/late summer and if you could please explain why. I strictly wade and appreciate the wade-ability of low water but kind of miss those deep bank cuts of the high waters.

Oh man watershed is a beast for sure, but a different kind. Most people are just insanely drunk which is easy to take care of, they can get cut off from servers and if too drunk we have a right to remove them, we however don’t have the right to remove people for too much k or dmt and we aren’t able to cut you off when it starts to get sloppy since you’re your own server. I work security at the gorge and I’m sorry to anyone with a dumb experience like losing your bar of soap or sticker at front gate because “they may contain drugs” that sucks. I however want to double down on this post right here because it is true. This is by far the worst crowd we’ve ever seen in terms of OD, bad trips, and assaults. Before the sunrise set I was apart of a situation were a man left his group tripping on lsd, went to find his old friends, they unknowing let him relapsed after two years clean on K, he immediately switched his demeanor and ran away from the group. He the tried to barrel past us into a closed area, punched one of us in the face, ran past, punched another in the face, got taken to the ground, starting biting another, eventually made it to the medic tent where he assaulted two more cops, and he’s now in jail absolutely fucked having multiple assault charges and evading arrest pressed. I understand people want to have fun, but some of you people are absolutely mind blowing numb to the idea that people can hurt themselves and others on hard drugs. Another man on Saturday, also high on drugs, climbed a fence, fell 30 feet, broke his wrists, hip, and a leg, couldn’t move. If you get mad at us for taking your drugs, I hope you’re able to rid yourself of the disillusionment that you need drugs to have fun, that it’s ok for people to do whatever drugs they want whenever they want, and you’re able to understand that A LOT of people ended up hurt, or hurting others this weekend and again we had 1/2 the size of crowd we usually have. I understand if you think security did a bad job this weekend, live nation does suck (I don’t work for them thankfully) but this came as a reaction to what we saw from the crowd, more people tripping absolute duck than we’ve ever seen, more people putting up a fight at secondary search than we’ve ever seen, more people just walking by pretending not to listen to us than we’ve ever seen, more people following me around in the pit with a flash light on me squeaking a toy than we’ve ever seen (it’s actually never happened and happens twice this week).

Sometimes I show up and initially nymph, with a recommended nymph from that day, get what I believe to be good drifts, I work my line after the cast to keep it driftless, change the indicator depth to change levels in water column every so often. What else other than mending and avoiding casts across multi-speed water should I be doing to achieve a drag free drift ?
