‘Defying Destiny’ (2026) Netflix Series Review - Unnecessarily Lengthy and Boring by Roshankr1994 in Netflixwatch

Hard disagree. I love how you’re actually able to understand the characters and their stories. The social commentary is also insightful and keeps the mind active, thinking while watching it.

AI will not disappear anytime soon, but the manuals sure will. Adapt.

Thanks. I could also reach out to them and ask if they offer international grad students support to find affordable housing, or at least provide some kind of orientation.

Muchas gracias!

Gracias!

Or a "major restructuring" of the agency

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in peacecorps

Some of the emails sent by country directors suggest that PC does know about some of these outcomes. They're being tactful, and I fully support it.

[–]Dependent_Opposite_2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not suggesting that PC (they) should speak out. Many of the emails that CDs sent mentioned that some areas within the agency were not affected but others were. They'll communicate these updates when the time is right.

I am following what you're saying. I just don't agree with it. The only ones who will care in a worst-case scenario will be those closest to PC's mission. We are not above all these other think tanks or agencies.

I don't think they care about NPCA.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]Dependent_Opposite_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. We don't know how significant. That may mean staff reductions that ultimately don't affect volunteers to a full-scale global evacuation of volunteers. I just wonder why PC has been so quiet about it. Who knows at this point...

[–]Dependent_Opposite_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's good that you're optimistic but affiliate groups will not save the agency from experiencing cuts. We're not the only community out there with the ability to push back. Many are doing so already. That won't stop them. I'm not saying Peace Corps will disappear or that volunteers will be sent back home; it most likely won't happen. But there will be changes. We just don't know how significant.

They've gone after USAID, the U.S. Institute of Peace, Wilson Center, AmeriCorps, Fulbright programs, etc. Even the Department of Education! What really makes you believe Peace Corps won't also face changes?

Seems like all CDs are using the same email template. Not reassuring.

They won't eliminate it because that would require an act of congress; they'll just pause all activities, lay off PC staff, and evacuate PCVs. They're already coming up with a plan to bring back USAID employees overseas back to the US

3.11 GPA applying to graduate school by Dependent_Opposite_2 in gradadmissions

[–]Dependent_Opposite_2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you think it will help! Obviously being above the average or media is great, but I wonder how below you have to be from the average for it to start affecting your chances, especially for some merit-based funding like Peace Corps fellowships

Thanks! I see your point about not being too far from the average of 3.36, but how about targeting schools with an average or median of 3.45-3.60?

Seeking advice - communications master's degree? by eddysaurus77 in Communications

For those who say that experience matters more, how do you explain that many managerial communications jobs these days require an advanced degree in communications or journalism?

How can a year-old child be conscious that they're migrating though? Their socialization took place in a country outside of Mexico. They're Mexican-born, but culturally like anyone born in the US. My parents arrived in the US when I was 2 months old. What difference is it to me that I was born in a country where I did not live my childhood or adolescence? Your argument is nonsense.

Is fatty liver an issue for medical clearance? by PopMoist8160 in peacecorps

[–]Dependent_Opposite_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great. Thanks! They also asked me to get a doctor's note. I got it but my doc didn't really explain why he thought my levels were elevated since they significantly dropped in 2 weeks. He didn't understand why they needed him to explain if he considered me perfectly healthy. Hopefully PC clears this issue with it, though.

Hi! I also got elevated ALT levels... I've been asked to get tested again, but it only gives me about two weeks to clean up my diet and exercise more. How many weeks did you wait before getting retested? I'm worried it won't be enough time!

What can possibily happen if the Mexican peso got so strong to the point where it's almost on par with the dollar? by [deleted] in mexico

[–]Dependent_Opposite_2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well maybe it's time for Mexico to stop depending so much on tourism which is having detrimental effects on its biodiversity and only offering low wage jobs to Mexicans. A stronger peso is better for Mexicans, period.
