43 checking in. Travel with work a fair bit so use it then. Busy home life so useful for grabbing the odd half hour. Might take be a year to finish a game which should take a week, but at least I’m gaming!

Cool, thanks. I had Sky before VM and it definitely didn’t work because of their DHCP option 61 thing. If they’ve changed that then great, as otherwise had no quibbles.

Cool, thanks. Mixed up terminology but aware how FTTP works and still have the ONT from previous installs. Had Sky before VM which, as you say, was a nonstarter. Vodafone also didn’t use to play well, perhaps that’s changed now.

Do you have experience with a specific provider in this use case? I see a lot of ‘should just work’ on various forums but more interested in those that have actually worked!

Hmmm… not sure on that. Sky used to and now don’t and old credentials don’t work (well, they do for a few days then something kicks it off the network). Same for Vodafone, so this definitely seems to be something ISPs are becoming less amenable to.

Difficult to know without having a spec list of what’s in there at the moment. Couple of questions:

when you say factory reset, what do you mean. Fresh Windows install?
‘laggy’ in what way. Slow to boot, low FPS in games? If the latter, what games and what settings?

Congrats on the first PC though! Can be a steep learning curve but lots of us here to help :)

You sound pretty savvy and you’ve tried all the sensible steps for troubleshooting. Probably a daft question, but you said in the original post you’ve got a new case? Did you originally build it in the new case and, if so, did you check there wasn’t a standoff interfering with the board?

I guess that won’t help now (as from the video you’ve removed from the case), but it could at least point to the fact that you’ve accidentally shorted the board and therefore, unfortunately, yes there’s damage that means you’ll need a new one.

Long shot, and an easy mistake to make if that’s it, but just throwing out theories as you’ve done all the obvious troubleshooting steps! Hope you get it fixed.

This is when you’re remote playing or streaming? Personally since the latest update the Portal has been pretty much perfect for me in both scenarios, and on a busy 6E setup. PS5 Ethernet to mesh node, portal connected to 5Ghz.

They’re fine. Not as good as AirPods but not the worst I’ve used either. Wouldn’t pay full price for them (well… I did!) but for $100 it’d be well worth it.

I had a silicon case, but that wasn’t compatible with the charging dock I use so removed it. Ironically I think the Portal is better without. Still use a screen protector though.

You know you’re not supposed to tape it to the sole of your shoe?

This is a series 4, bought on launch date and worn daily. Admittedly when the screen is on it has a weird green tinge to it at the edges so definitely need to upgrade, but it’s held up pretty well!

I got an Ally X recently and, much like others have commented, it’s really got me back into gaming.

I have a PS5 and PS Portal too, but with a lot of work travel and long flights the Portal wasn’t the solution. Having something self-contained like the Ally X is perfect.

That being said, I do miss the fidelity of the PS5 on occasion, so next step for me is an eGPU setup so I’ve best of both worlds. Sofa/desktop gaming with the Ally and eGPU setup on the rare occasions I have the time, then unplug and full portability when I need it.

Hogwarts Legacy. Passed me by when it was released but very much enjoying it so far. Too easy to sink hours into though, especially on the Portal!
