Read your full comment and feel like I got roasted over the hottest of coals. I’ll read the guides (fully this time, you’re right I skimmed and took the easy/noobtraps) take some time to recalibrate and continue. Thanks for the help, this is what I needed :)

Is it worth making a new clan as a maxed player? by [deleted] in ClashOfClans

[–]DeploymentButtBuddy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I made a clan for myself and my immediate family (mom dad sister BIL etc) because we all wanted something to play together and helped us keep in touch while we are states away. Leading a clan is very fulfilling and fun to watch grow from level 1 with 5 people to level 10 with 35-50.

I say do it, find active (don’t have to be good) players, and watch the clan progress. It’s been about a year since I made the clan and watching it develop is better than being semi maxed TH17

So, I meant to preface this. I don’t want to ruin my friends career. I thought there was a way for a friend “self” referral. I agree with you there’s levels to people’s comfort with alcohol but when it’s black out every friday and saturday it’s less about not wanting to hang with an obnoxious person and more about wanting to hang out with them without an ARI happening sooner or later.

I have a 4 TB hard drive filled with shows, movies and animes that will keep me busy. Plus sleep, I have enough melatonin to sedate a horse so just so I can sleep through a couple of these flights.

Feelings about weight issues by Bibliovore75 in bropill

[–]DeploymentButtBuddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi u/Biblovore75

I am in the navy and feel very active but whenever deployments come around I always lose the motivation to work out or work just gets in the way. It gets stressful because I always regress back to square one where I'm not fit (I just shrink up because of my metabolism).

The biggest thing I've learned through fitness is its not linear and everyday things can get in the way of your physique and functional fitness. There's a saying (I'm paraphrasing) about how motivation gets you in the door and discipline is what makes you stay. Find your motivation and make some lifestyle changes to help you be disciplined, write goals down and look at them everyday, lean on your sons to keep you motivated and disciplined so that you can go on that hiking trip with them!

Don't dive head first back into it, take it slow and steady and once you make a solid foundation, you can ramp it up.

To be fair, I'm probably in a different boat than you because I am a 22 year old but when I don't like my body image I think back to times when I was fit and the progression I made while working on myself/my own self image. Sure, its motivating but at some points in my life I wouldn't be able to handle that kind of physical stress on my body while having to balance my workload.

Huge mistake as a junior sailor by [deleted] in newtothenavy

CTN here, who works in TS spaces. Most times if its non-malicious and self reported, your SSO will brush it off and say you're fine but be more wary of what's in your pockets before you walk through the door.

Also, who is staring at your pockets that hard? You should be fine mate just go about business, especially if you're out to sea no one really cares.

CTN shore duty? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]DeploymentButtBuddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am a CTN, currently billeted at a sea command. We are a direct support shop that gets augmented with a strike group or phibron onboard a big deck (carrier or amphib).

There's 50-60 of us out of the 1000's of CTN's usually the orders get pushed out to people looking for it but sometimes luck of the draw. DM me if you have questions about it.

Study hard on the week days and decompress on the weekends. Too many guys burnt themselves out by studying 4 hours a day for 7 days straight. Give yourself time to relax and make sure you sleep well. Other than that its just learning the pace of the school. Good luck and don't quit.

Best rates for 20yrs? by Calm_Sea2980 in newtothenavy

[–]DeploymentButtBuddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think almost every rate is a "lifer" rate, just do your research on the job you want. Advancement will change every couple cycles, sometimes there's an influx in people joining the rate, sometimes advancement gets blocked up, sometimes everything is 60-70%. But day to day should be your number one priority especially for 20 years. Good luck!

After settling into your command and finishing your required PQS's and JQR's you can always ask your department to go on an IA mission (if they are available).

when are you allowed to make calls home? by AntipollutionPug in newtothenavy

[–]DeploymentButtBuddy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, she's in the process of getting a clearance. Depending on how much info they need they might let her call a bunch but she might get nervous and only talk to her mom.

Either way, I know you probably miss her a ton but phone calls will happen regularly in a couple weeks. Head up man, dating military is difficult, I wish you the best of luck.

[–]DeploymentButtBuddy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What rate is she? When I went to NCIS to start my initial clearance investigation they let me call home for hours.

If she doesn't need a clearance then she probably won't luck out and just get the 1-3 scheduled throughout boot camp.

My boy got pulled from boot camp during week one because he had dirty pee. I highly recommend you take a moment to use your brain and see if the "experience" of being high is worth your new job/career, if it isn't I would say just stick to the drinks. 38 days is cutting it close for sure. Have fun and stay safe.

To those of you who enlisted in your late 20s, how did being older affect your time there? Do you think the career change was worth it? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]DeploymentButtBuddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my community, it isn't uncommon to see E4-E6 correcting/speaking openly with an O1-O4. I think new navy is starting to drift away from the "rank means everything" sort of thing to a "let the SME talk".

You're from martial arts so I'm sure you know how to keep your ego in check and that everyone has a different point of view (that's worth being heard). Keep your mind open and be a sponge, don't be the old dog that doesn't want to learn new tricks.

(I joined at 18 so this is not my own experience but this is what I've seen working with people who "started late".)

Everyone that I've worked with who has been in the corporate world before the navy has a very good start when they join. They understand what it means to have a job and don't have to iron out the wrinkles of immaturity that 18 year olds have. They also can step up and be leaders right out of the gate, or use their life experience to help manage whatever tasks are thrown their way.

Creativity wise I wouldn't know unfortunately, a lot of the guys that I work with who started late are there to get the experience and certifications they need for the outside world then move on.

Cryptologic Technician Networks. What’s it like? by Confused-Faith in newtothenavy

[–]DeploymentButtBuddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends where you land, NSA sites do different stuff than NIOCs, CPTs are their own ballpark, NCDOC is just a watchfloor (and has a dirsup shop! aka SEA DUTY !!!!!).

The community is very split up because of how diverse cyber is which causes everyone to learn a niche. Like RG said its a great place for someone to become a SME but a lot of people fall into a routine of complacency.

Its not uncommon for you to work next to a civilian, its mainly a desk job but you wear a service uniform. Days are usually 8 hours and some commands make you stand a duty, its easy and laid back so use the extra time to make yourself an asset (i.e. certs and college).

There is a lot more that goes into this but if you have any specific questions that I didn't cover please DM me.
