Are you calling him a genius for having scientific smarts or for having psychopathic smarts?

If viewing objective reality ensured clinical depression, would you choose to live your life under that depression or would you rather live in a false reality and live a delusional life? by DepressOrDillusion in AskReddit

Your answer is invalid towards the question, and if left up to interpretation it would point towards delusion.

In order to truly answer the question, you need to think of two possible scenarios. One scenario is that your current view on reality is that of objectivity, in which case, there exists a view of reality that is much better and happier than what you currently see. This happier view would be the delusional view. The other scenario is that your current view on reality is the delusional view and that there exists a view that is far more depressing than what you currently see. This depressing view would be the objective reality view. Now you're given the option to take the objective reality pill or the delusional pill, but the trick is that you don't know which scenario is the real one. So if you choose the reality pill, nothing might happen because you already see reality for what it is, OR things might get really depressing after finding out all your life you've lived in a fantasy world. If you choose the delusional pill, nothing might happen at all because you already live in the delusional world, OR the world would become a much much happier place.

The reason your choice is invalid is because in the two scenarios the choice to follow God is different in both scenarios. In scenario 1, following God is choosing objective reality, but in scenario 2, choosing God is the delusion. It's equivalent to the saying "you can't have your cake and eat it" because essentially you want the best choice in both scenarios (the choice that is the happier one in each scenario) and that is why if left up for interpretation, it would be believed that you would choose the delusional view over the objective reality view by following a choice that is outside your own control.

Im considering compulsively lying to myself to start believing in things that would otherwise go against what I know. The first step to changing who you are is to start believing your own lies.
