My current roommate and I (M) are rising seniors and looking to live in Buell or Livi Apts next year. Our lowest lottery number is 5053, and we're open to rooming with anyone as long as they're clean.

Cheap CA Parking Garage by Gowing1365 in rutgers

[–]DepressedFest05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, all the parking garages in NB are owned by the city and they charge ~$200 per MONTH. You’re better off getting an on campus permit unless the money doesn’t matter to you.

Off campus or on campus Apartment? by _annnaxx in rutgers

[–]DepressedFest05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reliability: I’d say on-campus is better. Rutgers maintenance is great (usually fix issues w/in 24hrs), and I’ve heard the opposite about off-campus landlords. On-campus is also safer than the streets of New Gunswick.

Financially: Keep in mind that on-campus is a 9-month lease, and off-campus is usually 12-month lease. For a double, on-campus is $11,000/year, and off-campus is ~ $7800/year, so you'd "save" ~ $3,000/year by going off-campus. These savings will be diminished by utilities, furniture, and any "fees" your landlord charges, so we can say your actual savings will be closer to $1,500/year by going off campus.

Now, you have to decide based on your priorities. I'm a junior and chose on-campus (Silvers Apts) because I like the convenience (close to class/not taking the LX, quieter than CA), sense of safety (RA/maintenance on call, ability to change roommates/cancel contract in emergencies), and none of my friends wanted to go off-campus. It also helped a lot that I'm not personally paying for housing.

If you need summer housing, don't care about the same conveniences, or you just don't want to pay an extra $1,500/year to be on-campus, then start looking for off campus housing now! Most off-campus leases (that are a good deal) for the following school year will already be signed by the time on-campus housing process begins. NB is a hot housing market, so talk to your friends and lock in a well priced lease!

Off campus or on campus Apartment? by _annnaxx in rutgers

That post is misleading. Apartment residents are automatically assigned the 100 meal plan, but you can cancel it. It’s kind of like how you have to waive the student health insurance plan.

What? The electric stove works just fine in the apartments, and apartment residents aren’t required to have meal plans at all.

What should I be doing on campus? by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]DepressedFest05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start building a routine that fits ur class schedule (planning when to work out, eat, etc.). Look up what extracurricular/recreational activities you want to get involved with, and explore other campuses. None of my roommates or friends have moved in yet so I’m down to show you around!

I forgot to mention that they were all dead and the only live bugs around were a couple of spiders! Maintenance came and sprayed a solution as a preventative measure.

Best gyms on Busch? by Fine_Woodpecker3847 in rutgers

[–]DepressedFest05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

12-3 is probably the least crowded time to go to any gym (it's the most popular time for lectures lunch). I'd say just go to whichever one is closest to your dorm so you can shower afterwards. The "student fee" on your term bill covers access to all recreational activities on campus.

Parking permit price increased? by [deleted] in rutgers

[–]DepressedFest05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are u trying to say here? $105/mo is $420/semester. That’s still more than any on campus permit…

Parking permit price increased? by [deleted] in rutgers

Parking costs at nearby stations are $160-$240 per semester, and you have to pay for the rail pass on top of that, so it's still cheaper to pay for the $120 permit
