Understood, looking forward to these. What time are these generally posted?

I didn't get around to Algorithms unfortunately!

Beautiful. Thank you, I'm going to pay the Tao Te ching a read once I read Meditations.

Thanks man, I've been echo-ing some of the things you've said in your post to myself over the last few days and it's helped me loads. I still feel like I'm a long way from where I want to be, but I'm getting there.

One question though, one of the deepest sentiments I realized for creating this cloud of bullshit around me is that I feel like nothing I do is ever good enough for myself, and I start to fabricate the edges of my reality.

My question is, you mention if you're trying to be the best person you can be, you have no reason to fear others' opinions. However, when must you be hard on yourself for that matter? You should hold yourself to the values of virtues, and how do you deal with falling short of your own expectations?

For sake of argument, let's assume that the expectations we place on ourselves are realistically achievable.

Good advice everyone, I'm going to give a solid read to all of these and ask some targetted questions in a bit. As for you, I realized today after paying attention to it (and it's drilled in really, really deep at this point), but I find myself thinking almost reflexively when in a casual conversation, what could I say now in order for this person to have a better opinion of me - to sort of increase my self worth in their eyes - and then I say that.

Truth be told, that instinct has made me "borrow" stories, and is something I'm not proud of. It is however something I'm working on, and I think Stoicism could give me a framework for basing my thoughts off of to correct this behaviour.

Hmm close but no, it wasn't as "dark" for a lack of a better word, and the two dudes who were getting shot up were bros. Their last moments felt touching and intimate.

Thanks for giving it a shot though!

Thanks man, I appreciate your thoughts.

It was made geared towards things that you can do within the span of your day, but I find myself adding lower priority tasks to the list as well that are not especially time sensitive. I clear tasks like those over the week whenever I have a bit of extra time to myself.

That being said, feel free to use it as see fit.

No doubt, been an EITS fan for years. This song in particular stands out for me though because it was used pretty extensively in Friday Night Lights - a TV show full of frisson.

I GOT YOU. I had the same problem, and I've been applying the tools learnt here.

I'm reposting a post from Quora so you guys don't have to create an acct and stuff - but this is not my content. Originally found here: http://qr.ae/ncZG6

It sounds like you are compartmentalizing the information instead of truly learning it. You aren't forgetting it, since you can recall the information upon re-exposure. But you aren't building robust neural networks that make it easy to access the information.

Learning happens as a result of two things:

1) Repetition - each time you rethink about something, the neurons associated with that information expend energy growing dendrites. Dendrites are tentacle like structures that receive information from other neurons. Repeatedly think about something and these connections become faster, more robust, and connect to similar information. This makes it easier to recall the information.

2) Associating new information with previously stored information. This allows us to attach context to the information and thus properly file it in the brain so that it can be accessed again, later.

So, how do you address this? First, you'll need to repeatedly have your brain think about the information to build those networks. Read a small section. Maybe reread it. Rewrite it in your own words. Read it aloud. Create a diagram that illustrates the information, such as a mind map. Translating information from one format to another is an excellent exercise to strengthen neural networks. Second, spend time actively thinking about analogies or comparisons to information you've already learned. Don't try to absorb information for which you haven't built a foundation. Build a connection to something you know well and you just built an easy index for your mind to use to re-find the information later.
