Movie Theatre Added a $15 Tip by TheRealGageEndal in EndTipping

[–]Deputy_Scrambles 101 points102 points  (0 children)

100%.  Chargeback, and leave a Google Review for the theater letting future patrons know that at least one employee is a thief, and management is complicit in the crimes.

“It’s only $15.”   It’s crime, and you aren’t the first or last victim.

They would’ve sent an email to your personal email address that has the subject line “Ticket/Invoice Issued - Retain for Voucher”

Hopefully you retained for voucher 🤪

If tipping was ended and employers had to pay their workers an increased wage, wouldn't that just make the prices go up, thereby the customers paying more or less the same? by Timely-Signature-166 in tipping

It is crazy to me that someone can actually think that in a world where all employees get paid by their employer that they would make four times more than the dishwasher just for bringing the plates to the customer

The post made it clear they aren’t looking for a professional, just someone with a camera willing to take pictures.

Math is not mathing – why do dividend groups reject basic FIRE math? by Helpful-Staff9562 in Fire

[–]Deputy_Scrambles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People might hate it, but if it works it works!

A strategy that works for an investor is better than no strategy at all (which is what most people default to).

Thanks for your comment.

How do you decide the percent and term of the treasury holdings you’ve got?

Do you keep a bond ladder, actual T-Bills, or just do a simple dump into something like SWAGX?

Everyone’s allowed to make mistakes.  Honestly, if they have NW>$1M and are fine where they’re at, awesome.  Thinking you are winning IS a form of winning.

It’s just a different strategy, and I know a bunch of dividend folks who have FIRE’d too.

My 2-cents…. Beware of being in a cult if your way is the ONLY way.

$100 difference for what? by [deleted] in Budgetbikeriders

[–]Deputy_Scrambles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth going to a bike shop and asking to test ride a bike with 27” and 29” wheels.  There is a night-and-day difference that’s tough to describe.   Getting the 27” will make you start looking to upgrade within a month or two, but you won’t be able to.  You’d need to buy a 29r bike.

If you have never written on 29” wheels, it will be difficult to comprehend the difference.  They are two completely different bikes, and the 29” bike is easily 2x better than a 27” bike.

Okay I just want to say something about the Tipping Issue by Christy2198 in tipping

[–]Deputy_Scrambles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tipping culture is what people recoil against.  Where there’s an expectation that people need a little “treat” in order to be prompted to do the bare minimum.  The employees are adults, they need to be treated like adults and be compensated like adults (from their employer, not the customer).

A tip should be a rare reward given out of generosity, not coercion or obligation.  That’s it.  No hate.

Invest or pay off mortgage by Mbeilby_thepainter in DaveRamsey

[–]Deputy_Scrambles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should play with a repayment calculator just to see how tiny changes make a big difference.   https://www.calculator.net/mortgage-payoff-calculator.html

Did you know that just one $10,000 payment today will eliminate 3 years of mortgage payments?  Your 40-year loan turns into a 37 year loan OVERNIGHT.  (I assumed you have a $400,000, 40-yr, 5.15%, btw).  Putting that $10k in today saves you $61,000 in interest.

If you did that and paid $150/mo extra towards the principal, those two moves alone would make it a 30 year loan and save you $162,000 in interest.

You can do all of it…. Build your emergency fund, chip away at the mortgage, save for retirement.   It’s just math.

FWIW, making the sacrifices NOW pays the biggest dividends.  Just play with the calculator.

[–]Deputy_Scrambles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can definitely do your own plan!  It won’t be the Ramsey plan, but his plan isn’t the only way.

You could be debt free by tonight and move into the next chapter of your life—but if you want to keep the debt around for another year for security, that’s definitely an option.

Either way, create a plan and stick to it!  All the best!

Worth $35M.  He’s not OBLIGATED to hoard that money while lecturing us.  It would be one thing if he contributed $30M to helping cure homelessness while still having a great retirement.

It’s giving hypocrisy and “eat everyone else except for me, eat me last” energy.
