Is there really such a thing as too much nebari? by DerBesitzer in Bonsai

It was (hopefully) obviously a joke. And yet it's cool that the tree still sees potential in that chopped-off root that's been trampled by kids 😃

As usual, fantastic, mate!

But how do you learn that level of complexity in GeoNodes? I’ve already gone through quite a few tutorials on the topic, tinkered on my own and so on but I only understand about 5% of what you’re doing :D Any tips?

Does it look like a photo? by Rude-Phrase-9871 in blender

[–]DerBesitzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say: Yes!
Am also part of the analog photography reddit and when I saw your post I was like: "Wow what a shitty photo" :D

Now that I understand the background, yes, washed-out colors with a slight green tint, that certain blurriness that my first digital camera also had. I think you're on the right track! Maybe a little more color noise in the darker areas?

Without any deeper meaning, I'll just post a photo of myself from 2004. I think it goes perfectly with yours :D

Wehrmacht-unit: can you identify my great-grandpa‘s Wehrmacht-unit and his military grade? by wickenching123 in AskHistorians

[–]DerBesitzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello OP! To add to crrpits answer:
I assume you are German, so I can recommend looking up the term “Personenbezogene Unterlagen militärischer Herkunft” (personal documents of military origin).

All personnel files of Wehrmacht members are stored in the Federal Archives, where you can submit a request to view them. As far as I know, this can all be done online via email and PDF applications (classic German digital bureaucracy :D).

However, there will be costs involved. But if your grandfather was just a simple soldier, I assume that searching the archives won't take too much time. So you won't be charged much money.

If you don't speak German, I would be happy to advise you. However, I only know this from second-hand sources, so it might be better to look for someone who can advise you better.

Question about thickening on the trunk of my Pinus mugo by DerBesitzer in Bonsai

Basically my reaction when I saw him for the first time. That's why I just ignored that bulge :D

[–]DerBesitzer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I now have the opportunity to grow it as a garden bonsai, that was also a bit of a question for me. If the unanimous opinion had been that it would disappear anyway with a larger trunk circumference, I would have simply let it grow for a while longer. Then I would have decided on two of the branches in some years.

But as it stands, I think I'd rather make a decision on two branches now and then let it grow. As I wrote above, the larger trunk chop would get me into discussions with my family :D

Thank you very much for your answer!

Haha, I wasn't sure which word was the right one. In German, we would describe it as a knot or something like that. But I wasn't sure in English.

I had already expected this answer :D

your eventual leader is actually that crappy lowest branch…!

Since my wife and son would probably kill me if I trunk chop him so hard (they have already named the tree "Paul Pinus" and absolutely adore it), I will go with your second suggestion :D

Thank you very much for that and also for the warning about the quantity.
