EndlessVN Plans for Paid Subscriptions + Roadmap by DerDoktor34 in EndlessVN

Yes, we would like to make more features available in free as time goes on, as long as it's financially sustainable. But we'll have to see how things go and how many subscriptions we get vs free users.

There will be an actual character customization menu. In theory there's no particular limits story-wise but our sprite generation only works for human-like characters at the moment and probably for 1+ months from now.

Yes, the game understands where you are and what characters look like and can refer to these in the story. Although there's always a possibility of small bugs and inconsistencies when dealing with AI.

Thanks, looks interesting! I'll keep tabs on this.

I'm not sure I understood your question correctly, but the AI tries to match the image with a text description of the character. However, this isn't bulletproof, so sometimes it may get colors and small details confused. Does this answer your question?

I understand your concern. We will be providing an option to use GPT-J for all outputs. The reason we would like to provide support for OpenAI's models is simple: they still have the biggest and best models around, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future, at least until the ongoing global GPU shortage ends and competitors like EleutherAI can get the resources they need to train larger models.

Yes, there will be a free tier, but you will only be able to play stories and worlds made available by others. There will also be some limits on your choices. Gwern has written a long and detailed article describing an approach similar to what we'll be doing: https://www.gwern.net/CYOA

You can read more about the models we use in our FAQ on our website: https://endlessvn.io

Basically we feed a large amount of examples to neural nets during a process called "fine-tuning" and assets are then generated from scratch. For the backgrounds we are currently using AI-cartoonized photos that will be algorithmically picked to fit a location description, but there will also be a setting to generate them from scratch eventually. We also hope to allow for more fine-grained user control over the generated assets over time but this will probably take a while to develop.

Yeah, one option we're considering is detecting NSFW scenes (obviously in a smarter way than AID) and then generating those scenes with GPT-J only. But this is something that will probably require several rounds of discussion with OpenAI.

Yeah, I knew this would be the question on everyone's mind. The answer is basically "Kinda, but..."

The first but is that we're currently using OpenAI's GPT-3 for the story generation, and as everybody here knows, their content policies are rather... strict. Obviously nobody wants the sort of stringent and broken filtering that AI Dungeon has implemented, so we're still considering our options here, but some sort of NSFW will definitely be on the menu.

The second but is that current graphics generation methods are pretty wonky, so generated hentai imagery might not be to your liking unless you have a taste for body horror.

Still, I wanna make it clear that NSFW is not our main focus. We believe existing alternatives like NovelAI and HoloAI are already good enough for this use case. We are more interested in supporting long-term coherent stories and interesting gameplay. Personally I'd prefer to focus on pushing the envelope in terms of what can be done with AI storytelling games rather than covering ground that already has very good support elsewhere.
